On 16 Dec 1823 when Jacob was 22, he married Margaret FOLGEM (FOLLIGAN, FOLGAN) in Stark Co., OH. Born on 20 Oct 1804 in PA. Margaret died in Knoxville, Marion Co., IA, on 26 Nov 1875; she was 71. Buried in North Greenwood, Knoxville, IA.
Another possible spelling of the last name is FOLLIGAN.
A post to the Shilling message forum by Roxanna Stevens on 16 November 2001 gave the following information: “But I do know something about Margaret and her husband Jacob. They were travelling westward to Iowa from Pennsylvania through the states of Indiana and Illinois when Jacob Shilling somehow fell off the wagon and broke his neck somewhere in Indiana [no one knows for sure exactly where, though], but Jacob survived this injury only for about 10 days before he died. I assumed from this family story that he more than likely was buried right there where he fell off [most likely in an unmarked grave]. Margaret Shilling continued to travel to Iowa with their children, finally arriving into what is now Marion County, Iowa, either in the town of Knoxville or near the city. Around 1872 or before that, she died and was buried in North Greenwood Cemetery just outside the city limits. I have personally seen her gravestone and the other stones of her descendants.”
