NOTES

Note 1 Birth date of Giles (1681-1686):

Giles was under 18 on 14 Dec 1699 when his father's will was executed; therefore he was born after 14 Dec 1681.
He received a deed of gift from his father 1 Apr 1686.
He was to receive his share of his father's estate at age 18.

The law allowed males to marry at 14, to possess land at 16,

but not own it until 21. Guardians were required for orphans

under 21, who could choose their own at 14.

In 1704 Giles, who was underage, requested the appointment of Wm. SEWELL as his guardian. By 1711 he must have been 21,
because he recorded two land transactions.

Most researchers suggest that Giles and Mary were married between 1700 and 1702. That would suggest birth dates about 1684 for both of them; however, males could marry at

14 & females at 12.

Note 2 Death date and place of Giles:

Giles Carter of VA says that Giles was in Henrico Co. at least until 1736, that no will had been found, and that his death date was unknown. p 77 says that the Carters of this family who remained in Henrico Co. were descendants of Giles II and his nephew, John, the son of Theodorick I.

Dawson says that by 1730 Giles II had moved to Hanover
Parish, King George Co., VA. It lists land purchases
and heirs of his 1745 will. p 299 3

Wm. & Mary Quarterly, 1

Maybe Benjamin - Witness of Robin Povall's 1785 will. 13
Probably other children not yet identified

Note 4 WEBB connection
It seems unlikely that Giles II could be the one who
died in 1745 in King George Co., VA. His will listed
a daughter, Mary WEBB. Mary, the daughter of Giles II was married to Ralph HUDSPETH II, and she died before
1736.
I don't know if Giles II was the person involved with the estate of John WEBB.
The will of Theodorick I, brother of Giles II, mentions
his next-door neighbor, John WEBB. Theodorick had a
daughter Mary. Theodorick's widow, Elizabeth, listed
in her will a grandson, Cuthbert WEB.
The 1736 will of John WEB of Henrico Co listed sons:
Jno., Jas, Geils, Theodrick, Henery, Jacob, & Cudbord.
