William ( X ) HUMPHREY & Mary ( MAXEY ? ) HUMPHREY - England and Virginia - 1600's

ID 3846 & 3847
rin 58 & 59

[Also spelled HUMPHRYES, HUMPHRY, HUMPHRYS, HUMPHERYES, HUMPHRIES, HUMFRY, HUMPHREYS, UMPHRY, & PUMPHREY]

Born - 1610 England (D.A.R., Colonial Dames & Ancestral File) 9

Married - ca 1640 England (Walters & Ancestral File) 9

Died - William's will executed 19 Jan 1685 and proved 1 June 1687 in Henrico Co.

Mary apparently died before 1685. She's not mentioneed in William's will. One report is that William arrived at Isle of Wight Co., VA in 1636. This appears to be inconsistent with his 1640 marriage in England, unless he returned to be married. 9

The first Virginia records I find for a William Humphrey are headrights. 50 acres of land was granted to the patentee for each headright (person) transported. [Maybe none of these is our William] 1

2 JUN 1679 William HUMPHREYS was directed by a court held at Varina for the County of Henrico "to fitt out 2 men horse armes &c. according to an act for the defence of the country against the incursions of the Indian Enemy." 3
