TIN TYPE PHOTOGRAPHS

It would seem that these photographs belonged to Flora's parents, as they were taken before Flora was born. Therefore, they probably are photographs with relation to the Brower or DeRonde families.

WILLIAM C. BROWER SR.

The oldest photograph we have is in a small red velvet lined wooden box, with a copper border and glass over the photograph. This was a common package for a keep sake photographs during the civil war. This is not a tin-type, but rather seems to be an ambrotype photograph, particularly given the mounting. And this is obviously a civil war photograph of William C. Brower Sr., in his Army uniform and we believe his two sisters, Lucretia and Elizabeth. William's parents were Jacob Brower Jr and Paulina Toman. Jacob and Paulina's parents both lived in the area that became known as "Dutch Town" or Toman Town that is located north of Jackson Summit. William enlisted in the 10th NY Calvary, under Capt. Gettman, joined for duty enrolled at age 19 on 30 August at Mayfield NY received $25 bounty and $2 premium.

MARTHA, MARY, and JOHN DeRONDE

While, no one could readily identify this photograph, carefully comparing this scan with other photographs of the family has convinced me that the lady on the left is Martha (nee DeRonde) Brower, Flora's mother. The others I suspect are her sister Mary DeRonde and her brother John DeRonde. I would guess this tintype was made between 1868 and 1872.

UNKNOWN GROUP OF NINE LADIES

This group of ladies is unknown. It would seem that the foreward most lady is wearing a long gown, possibly a wedding dress. I am guessing she may be Mary DeRonde who married Arthur Hall.

TWO LADIES

This tin-type of the two ladies is in poor condition. The areas of the faces have deteriorated which makes identification difficult. A guess at their identity would be Martha and Mart DeRonde. I wonder if they were wearing wigs for this photograph?

MAN AND WOMAN PORTRAIT

Not sure who this couple is

PORTRAIT OF FAMILY GROUP

This Tin Type was in a paper envelop with a cutout for the photograph of this family group.

FAMILY OF GEORGE W. BLOWERS & LYDIA TYRRELL CA. 1873 or 1874

Although this photograph is not from Flora's collection it is a tin-type of another Mayfield family, George W. Blowers (13 Sept 1841-9 Mar 1925) and his wife Lydia Tyrrrell (7 July 1849-27 Mar 1925) with their two (oldest) children. It is estimated that this tin type was made about 1873 or 1874 since John H. Blowers, presumably the older child was born 1 Feb 1868. The younger child may be Charles who died young and does not appear in any of the census records, but is believed to been born between 1870 and 1875. George and his wife lived on the Mountain Road North of Mayfield.
