Peter L Leemhuis

1851-1928

Peter L. Leemhuis 1851 to 1928 organized the Keystone Carriage Works in Erie, Pennsylvania USA along with his brother Frank in 1876. He became the sole owner in 1910. In 1916 he obtained one the first Ford agencies in the country and changed the company name to Keystone Auto Works.

Peter served a tern on the Erie City Council and was very active in his church and community affairs throughout his life. He married Henrietta C Hirt of Erie Pa in 1880 and the following children were born to them.

Catharine married Robert Couch of Erie, Pa. Neither she nor her brother Peter L Jr. who served in the army in World War I had children.

Carl H Leemhuis, a businessman, married Lucille Davidson. They had 3 children named Robert Leemhuis, Paul Leemhuis and Carolyn Leemhuis.

Robert Leemhuis 1921-? Graduated from Wittenberg College and served in the army in World War II. He is a music teacher in the Erie Public School System (1970). He married Marjorie Koons, also a graduate of Wittenberg. They have 4 sons: Jeffrey 1950 a student at Kent State Univ. (1970), Richard Leemhuis, Michael Leemhuis born 1953 and Gregory Leemhuis born 1958.

Paul Leemhuis 1925-1968 graduated from Penn State Univ. and was a chemical engineer with the Hammermill Paper Company of Erie Pa. He served in the army in World War II. He married Beatrice Kaufman, who is a graduate of Penn State Univ. and has her masters from Villa Maria College.

They have 3 children. Ronald Leemhuis born 1950 who in 1970 was a student at M.I.T., David Leemhuis born 1952 who was a student at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Susan Leemhuis born 1958.

Carolyn born 1930 is a graduate of Wittenberg College and has her Masters from Edinboro College. She married David Lingenfelter, a graduate of Lock Haven College, who has his masters from Edinboro College and is an audiologist in Erie Pa. They had a son, David Lingenfelter born 1959.

Miriam married Winfred Boyd, who founded and for many years operated the Boyd Welding Company of Erie Pa. They had 2 daughters Virginia Boyd and Ruth Boyd.

Virginia born 1923 graduated from Wittenburg College and married John S Lentz Jr., also a graduate of Whittenberg College. He served as a naval officer in World War II. They had 5 Children anmed John s. III born 1948 and a graduate of of Wittenberg College known to have studied for his masters at the Univ. of Pittsburgh, Rober B Lentz born 1951, William P Lentz born 1956, Sally Ann Lentz born 1959 and Susan E Lentz born 1958.

Ruth 1927 graduated from Wittenberg Collge and married James E Timpe, also a graduate from Wittenberg College and a naval office in World War II. They had 6 children. James W Timpe born 1951, Elaine M Timpe born 1953, Catherine J Timpe born 1957, Steven e Timpe born 1959, Sandra R Timpe born 1962 and David Timpe born 1968.

Raymond P Leemhuis born 1896 is a graduate of Muhlenburg College and received his law degree of the Univ. of Pennsylvania. He served as an infantry office in World War I and practiced law for many years in Erie, Pa. He married Isabel O'Brian, a graduate of D'Youville College and they had two sons, John Leemhuis and Roger Leemhuis.

John Leemhuis born 1930 graduated from Holy Cross College and the Univ. Of pennsylvania Law School. He served as a naval officer during the korean war, was a commander in the US Naval Reserve and practiced law in Erie, Pa as a partner in the firm of Quinn, Plate, Gent, Buseck and Leemhuis, his fathers law firm. He married Charla P Phillips a gradulate of Dunbarton College born in 1939. They had 4 children. John Leemhuis Jr.born 1960, William P Leemhuis born 1961, Louise M Leemhuis born 1962 and Andrea S Leemhuis born 1965.

Roger Leemhuis born 1936 gradulated from Villanova Univ.. He received his masters degree from the Univ. of Massachusetts and his doctorate from the Univ. of Wisconsin. He was a professor of history at Clemson Univ.
