VAN ALEXANDER CULPEPPER, age 72, died at his home near Eagle Springs, Friday, May 30. He was born May 6, 1856, in Eagle Springs where he was raised. He and his sister dug the old springs there in the early days. He died of a stroke of paralysis. Survivors include his wife, Anna Eliza Culpepper (1862-1953); children, Mrs. P. P. Lewis of Quanah, Mrs. 0. E. Mann of Waco, Miss Freddia and Miss Maggie Culpepper of Eagle Springs, Ben and E. A. Culpepper, Jr. of Eagle Springs. Burial was in Eagle Springs Cemetery by Cook Undertakers..9,10 |
| Biography* | May 2007 | Our home here is not an original Culpepper home. It is old, but we bought it 22 years ago. The original Culpepper home apparently fell down many years ago. The second EA built one close by and Evan's dad bought one and moved it next door about 50 feet from his parents home when he got married. In the early 1960's he built Vena a new home on the spot where his grandfather's home had been. They had to fill in the old water well to keep it safe for grandkids. They moved his parents old home to be a barn and tore down their old home. They sold the original home place in about the 80's and moved to town as they were getting too old to keep it and drive to town. We were here and bought this place and Evan's younger brother's wife's family had property that they would inherit and didn't want to move to the Culpepper place. The Culpepper place was rocky and brushy... very dry... We bought this place and love it. We have 33 acres. When we bought it, Evan's dad wanted to move up here beside us, but Vena wouldn't leave Moody.1 |
