Marriage*4 January 1905 He married Mararet Allean Mathis at Augusta, Richmond Co., Georgia, on 4 January 1905 at age 33.4,5
Biography*December 1906 Albert B. Culpepper, a member of the firm of Culpepper Bros., dealers in furniture, with a well equipped establishment at 1048 Broad street, Augusta, Ga., is one of the representative business men of the younger generation in that city. He was born at Thomson, McDuffie county, Ga., Sept. 22, 1871, his parents being Robert S. and Sophrona J. (Reeves) Culpepper, who still resides in Thomson, which city has been their home for the past forty years. Of their twelve children six died at ages ranging from one month to twenty years. Those living are Churchill C, Albert B., George S., Addie N., John S. and Anna Bell. Churchill C. was born on Aug. 12, 1866, and married Mattie M. Pearson; Addie N. is now the wife of George D. Adams, living at Wrens, in Jefferson county. Albert B. Culpepper acquired his education in the schools of his native town, which he attended until he was eighteen years of age. Upon attaining his legal majority he engaged in business for himself, buying and selling live stock, and also handling railroad ties and other products. He began in a modest way, but as he possessed the true commercial instinct and developed marked initiative power, his success has been cumulative and pronounced. In 1898 he took up his residence in Augusta, where for seven years he held the position of salesman with the furniture house of T. R. Maxwell. In April, 1905, he entered into partnership with his brother, George S. Culpepper, under the firm name of Culpepper Bros., and engaged in the furniture business. The firm is well established in a most eligible location, has a well appointed finely stocked store, and is building up a prosperous and representative trade. In addition to his interest in this enterprise Albert B. Culpepper owns a finely improved plantation of 580 acres in McDuffie county, upon which he produces an average of 85 bales of cotton annually. He purchased this plantation with money which he accumulated by his individual efforts since he reached the age of twenty-one years, and he has the satisfaction of knowing that the place is entirely free from encumbrance. The element of luck has never been permitted to enter into Mr. Culpepper's affairs. Every business proposition is carefully weighed in advance, and when once any enterprise is undertaken it is carried forward with that cool, calculating judgment and business acumen that has marked his entire career. In political matters Mr. Culpepper is an earnest and intelligent supporter of the principles advocated by the Democratic party, but he has never shown any predilection for public office. On Jan. 4, 1905, he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Allean, daughter of Millard F. Mathis, of Johnson, S. C. They have one daughter, Meryl, born July 3, 1906.1

William R. Culpepper

M, (circa 1853 - )
FatherStephen M. Culpepper (c 1811 - c 15 May 1879)
MotherElizabeth Jane Richey (c 1823 - a 1880)
Birth*circa 1853 William was born at Jones Co., Georgia, circa 1853.

(Son) 1880 Census1 June 1880 William, John and Stephen was listed as a son in Elizabeth Jane Culpepper's household on the 1880 Census at Jones Co., Georgia.4
(Witness) Research note Concerning the father of George Culpepper:

George Culpepper's mother, Mary Culpepper, was shown as divorced in the 1880 census. The identity of George's father is uncertain, but a George W. Culpepper was named as a grandson in the 1879 will of Stephen M. Culpepper.

Stephen M. Culpepper was the son of Robert Culpepper and his first wife, Pheriba Wright. Pheriba died when Stephen was only about four years old. Circa 1819, when Stephen was about eight, Robert married second, Jane. In the 1830 census in Columbia Co., Stephen and his brother George Washington Culpepper, are likely the males age 15-20 who are living with Jane. Jane was enumerated again in Columbia Co. in 1840 and then in Richmond Co. in 1850. Stephen has not been found in the 1840 census, but in 1850, 1860 and 1870 he was enumerated as a head of household in Jones Co. The most likely child of Stephen to be the father of George is the oldest son, William R. Culpepper, born circa 1853.
