Biography* Robert's ancestry is uncertain. Like William, he was probably the son of either Benjamin Culpepper or his brother Robert Culpepper, Jr.
In 1754, Robert Culpepper was a soldier in Captain James Cone's Company of the Edgecombe County Militia. Other soldiers in this company with possible ties to the Culpepper family included William and Benjamin Foreman, Nathaniel Powell, Nathan Whitehead, William Smith, William Dortch, William Clark, Mark Mason, Edward Bell, Francis Ward, and Robert Inman.
In June 1759, Benjamin Culpeper, Robert Culpeper, William Wilder, and Job Wilder were among a group of 20 men ordered to work on a road that was to be laid out "from the Mouth of Richard Horn's Path on the Tarr River Road, thence across Toisnot near Thomas Horn Jr.'s and a strait Course to Turkey Creek near Margaret Taylor's and so to Mockasin Creek near John Clark's...." (Edgecombe County NC County Court Minutes 1744 thru 1762, Book I, p. 130)
Few other records on Robert have been found. He must have moved to Anson County not long after 1759, along with others in the Culpepper family. He died in 1764 in Anson County. The buyers at his estate included Henry Stokes, Elijah Clark, Thomas Presler, and William Culpepper (Anson Co NC Wills & Estates -Loose Papers, 1749-1795 by Brent Holcombe, 1975, p. 20 of abstract and p. 295 of original volume).2,3

Research note* There are significant discrepancies in the dates of death for both Walter Boston Culpepper and his wife Ruby Blanche Morse Culpepper. For Walter, the cemetery record says 1969, but the FL Death Index says 1960. For Ruby, the cemetary record says 1949 but the FL death index says 1941. We have assumed here that the Flroda Death Index is correct, and in the case of Ruby's death, this assumption fits the fact that Walter divorced Mary in 1946. If you can confirm any of these dates please contact Warren Culpepper.6
