Obituary*21 March 1999 William Whitehurst "Billy" Culpepper, 91, of the 3000 block of Old Mill Road, died Friday, 19 Mar 1999, in a local hospital. Mr. Culpepper was born in Norfolk County and was a lifelong resident of Deep Creek. He was the son of the late William Thomas and Sophia Cherry Culpepper. Mr. Culpepper was retired from the Norfolk Naval Air Station and was a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include his brother, Carter Culpepper and his wife, Jo, of Chesapeake; his sister-in-law, Doris Poe of Chesapeake; two nephews, Bill Barlow of Chesapeake and Donald Culpepper of Jacksonville, Fla; two nieces, Sandra DeVaun of Richmond and Susan Jenkins of Chesapeake; and 12 great-nieces and -nephews. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge, and other times at the residence. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Culpepper Family Cemetery in Chesapeake by the Rev. Ernest Myers. Memorial donations may be made to the Union Gospel Mission, 3000 N. Landing Road, Virginia Beach, Va. 23456.9

Obituary*25 August 2013 Chesapeake - Carter Glass Culpepper, 89, of Chesapeake, met his Savior face to face on Saturday, August 24, 2013.A lifelong resident of "Deep Creek", Mr. Culpepper was born February 1, 1924, the youngest child born to the late William Thomas and Sophie Eleanor (Cherry) Culpepper.
     He was predeceased by his daughter, Sherrill Ann Culpepper, brothers; Walter Phillips Culpepper and William Whitehurst Culpepper; sisters, Bessie Culpepper Barlow and Eleanor Culpepper; and a special nephew, William Culpepper Barlow.
     He was a graduate of Deep Creek High School (1941) and the Naval Shipyard Apprentice School. A WWII Veteran, serving in the Philippine Islands, Mr. Culpepper returned home to work as a Woodcrafter in the Norfolk Naval Shipyard until retirement in 1979. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Jo Story Culpepper; a daughter and "son" Susan and Daniel Jenkins and two much loved grandchildren, Katelyn Umphlett (Trey) and Carter Jenkins.He was a greatly loved husband, Daddy, Papa and friend and he will be dearly missed by many.
     A long time member of Deep Creek Baptist Church, where he had served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher, Mr. Culpepper's greatest desire was to serve and please his Lord, Jesus Christ. His family is comforted in knowing they will see him again one day in heaven.
     A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 26, at the Culpepper Family Cemetery on Old Mill Road in Deep Creek. A visitation will be Sunday, August 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home, 653 Cedar Rd. Chesapeake, 23322. Memorial donations can be made in Mr. Culpepper's name to the Gideons International or Deep Creek Baptist Church Missions. Friends are invited to sign the online guestbook at www.omanfh.com.3
