Biography* | From Sharon Belk-Vorhees, July 2001: "Elbert David Culpepper is buried in the Fiery Gizzard [Marion Co., TN] along with his two sons John and Robert who both died at a young age. One from a horse and buggy vs. car accident (John) and one from cancer (Robert). Elbert died from pneumonia after working outside all day in a cold pouring rain. One more note, I have some 100 year old letters from some Culpeppers written on 'Culpepper HorseShoeing' letterhead from N.C. and I also have a restored picture of Elbert and his wife Mary. I also have a funeral card of Lucretia Adams Culpepper who died in 1900 at the age of 60. She was the wife of Jethro David Culpepper and mother to Elbert D. Culpepper." From Cinnamon Culpepper on 25 Nov 2008: Elbert did die from pneumonia. He came and chopped a load of wood for his daughter in bad weather, she was expecting my husband's uncle Bill, who went with us to clean off the gravesite. His daughter's husband had a broken leg at the time, and he died 2 years later from moonshine poisoning. The wife was left with 3 boys to take care of during the depression, one of which was my husband's father, James Kenneth Culpepper, who died in 1990 and is buried at Chattanooga National Cemetery.3,4 |
