"I am the great-grandaughter of William H. Culpepper, #1675, from Nash County, NC...
"Our family history says that James Madison was an illegitimate child. His mother, a woman named Polly Culpepper, had come to the Coppadge plantation (in the Nash County area) to teach the children. She became pregnant from one of the boys (I assume a Coppadge), abandoned the child and ran off with a man named Marshall. I also understand that when he married Catherine Upchurch, she was disowned from her family because she married a bastard child."¹

"I am the great-grandaughter of William H. Culpepper, #1675, from Nash County, NC...
"William H. Culpepper was also known as Billy. I knew his wife's name as Minnie Lewis, not Harriet, but will have to check further on that. Billy later ran a pharmacy in Spring Hope, NC which was destroyed by fire. His wife suffered from mental illness. After the fire, she was placed in a mental hosptial and never left. My grandmother, Annie Louise Culpepper recalled visiting her in the hospital when she was a young girl, but never knew much about her.¹⁰

SHANNON - Mary Collins, 87, died Thursday, March 2, 2006, at the Richardson Nursing Home after a long illness. She was born Dec. 14, 1918, in Algoma to Jim and Beulah Culpepper. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Shannon. An accomplished seamstress, she enjoyed quilting, babysitting her grandchildren, and meeting with her Brewer senior citizens group. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence Collins; an infant son; two brothers, James Culpepper and Milton Culpepper; a sister, Earline Russell; and three grandsons. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today.¹

FURRS - Charles Milton Culpepper, 73, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, at his home in the Furrs community after a long illness. He was a native of Pontotoc County and a longtime resident of Furrs. He was a retired truck driver and farmer, and a Baptist. He was a U S Army combat veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and raising cattle. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the Jefferson Street Chapel of W E Pegues with the Rev Ron Richard officiating. Burial will be in the Black Zion Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Ophelia Dearman Culpepper of Furrs; one daughter, Teresa Cleland and her husband Daryl, of Colorado Springs, Colo; two sons, Roger Culpepper and his wife, Rose, of Colorado Springs, and Rodney Culpepper and his wife Sammie of Tupelo; three sisters, Mary Collins of Okolona, Ruby Gregory of Smithville and Elsie Gregory of Bruce; two brothers, Bob Culpepper of Okolona and Bill Culpepper of Hatley; four grandchildren, Steven Culpepper, Josh Culpepper, Matthew Cleland and Brandon Cleland.

SMITHVILLE - Rubie Culpepper Gregory, 91, died Sunday, July 10, 2011, at her home . A native of Chickasaw County she was born on July 7, 1920, to the late James David and Beulah Aston Culpepper. Mrs. Gregory, who led a long full life, was a loving and caring person, always helping others. She was a retired seamstress, working at Amory Garment Co., Wilson Mfg, and Red Kap Industries before her retirement. She married Hermon Gregory, who preceded her in death. She was a member of Smithville Baptist Church and enjoyed engaging in biblical discussion. She enjoyed fellowship with the ladies of the church, especially last week when they celebrated her birthday together. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and loved gardening her many flowers, which she could name if asked even recently.

She is survived by her son, W.H. (Virginia) Gregory of Smithville; sister, Elsie Gregory of Pontotoc; grandchildren, Arnold (Meg) Gregory of Sturgis, Paul (Becky) Gregory of Amory, Norman (Jennifer) Gregory, Lynda White and Debbie Lansing all of Smithville; 11 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Don Lansing of Smithville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years; her daughter, JoAnn Lansing; four brothers, Milton, James, Robert and Bill Culpepper; and two sisters, Earline Russell and Mary Collins.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. today Tuesday at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Tommy Whaley and Bro. Wes White officiating. Burial will follow in Pearce Chapel Cemetery in Smithville.

Pallbearers will be her nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Will, Evan, Austin and Elijah Gregory, and Colby White.

Visitation will continue today until time for the service to begin.

Born Friday, August 29, 1930, she was the daughter of the late James David Culpepper and Beulah Aston
Culpepper. She was the wife of the late L.V. Gregory, died in 1997,
Former employee of Kellwood Company.
She was a member of Randolph Baptist Church and former longtime member of New Prospect Baptist Church.
Surviving are daughters, Mary Rush (late "Steen Rush")of Pontotoc, MS and Linda Gail (Danny) McDonald of Pontotoc, MS. Five grandchildren, Tina Rush, Charlotte Whitworth, Danielle McDonald, Jimmy McDonald, Tina Johnson. Eleven great-grandchildren, Angel, Lakan (Justin), Steen, Kodi, Trace, Kyra (Justin), Taylor, Logan, Anthony, Chelsey, and Matt. Three Great-great grandchildren, Haizlee, Mary Kyle, McKinize. Sister-in-law, Norene Culpepper of Hatley, MS. Special friend, Ella Mae Smith.
She was predeceased by brothers, James Culpepper, Milton Culpepper, Bob Culpepper and Bill Culpepper, sisters,

Amory, Mississippi. William Clinton "Bill" Culpepper, 75, died Sunday, December 14, 2008, at the Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center in Amory after a sudden illness. He was born October 22, 1933, in Mississippi to James David "Jim" and Beulah Bell Aston Culpepper. He lived in Houston, Mississippi and in the Parham Community of Monroe County for 44 years. He married Norene Fears on Dec 25, 1952. He was employed be Cramco and Fabrivalve before his retirement. He was a member of the Christian Chapel Church of Christ. He enjoyed woodworking, working with dogs and horses, and helping others.
     Services were Wednesday at the E. E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Ministers Marshall Eubanks Jr and Bobby Cleveland officiating. Burial was in the New Hope Cemetery.
