Commander James Bradford Miller, US Navy (Ret.), 68, a resident of Route 1, Cragford, passed away in Noble M Army Hospital, Ft. McClellan, Al. after a brief illness. Graveside services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m., April 23, 1980 from Memory Gardens with Bro. James Fargason officiating. Brock funeral home directing. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Suzanne Miller of Cragford; one daughter, Mrs. Lorraine Dean Burklow of Marietta, Ga; two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Gulley of North Shore, Calif. and Mrs. Lewis Barrett of Fairhope; one brother, Charles W. Miller of Birmingham; and one grandson. Lt. Commander Miller was a native of Clay County. He was retired from the US Navy following 26 years of active duty service. He was a veteran of World War II and a Protestant. Active pallbearers were Ed Burklow, Thurman Raughton [read Roughton], Dr. Jim Barrett, C.B. Parker, Jimmy Fargason, Deryl Raughton [read Roughton], William Bradford Miller, and Worth Amason. I lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be made to one's favorite charity. Biography* | | Wynema wrote the following in a 15 Oct 1978 letter: I'll never forget the family visiting in our home so many times. Seemed our house was headquarters for Mama's and also Papa's people. They did all they could to make them feel welcome. I remember those beds we would put down all across the room on the floor. Didn't we call them Methodist palettes or was it hard shell. Ha! The following is from The Lineville Tribune for 18 Mar 1982: Roughtons Golden Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Roughton were honored on their Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary at a Golden Anniversary reception hosted by their children and grandchildren at their home in Mellow Valley on Sunday. February 28, 1982 from two until four o'clock in the afternoon. Greeting the guests were Mr. and Mrs. James Fargason, and Miss Jana Roughton, their grand daughter registered the guests upon arrival. Miss Myrtie Will Fargason was in charge of gifts display. A linen cloth, with lace edging covered the tea table using gold color ribbon bows at each corner. Centering the table was an arrangement of gold and yellow chrysanthemums and leather leaf fern flanked by candelabra holding long yellow burning candles and the traditional anniversary cake, nuts, mints and crystal punch bowl, which were presided over by Mrs. Jimmy Fargason, Mrs. Donnie Fargason, Mrs. Gary Strickland, Mrs. Jim Reed. Approximately one hundred and twenty five guests called during the receiving hours, many nice and useful gifts were received. A number of out of town visitors were in attendance. |
