| Obituary* | 22 December 2015 | Cornelius, NC - Annie Marie (Ann) Browning Culpepper was born on Dec 11, 1932 in Swain County, NC to Gladys Shuler Browning and Humphrey Posey Browning. She grew up in Bryson City, graduated from Swain County High School in 1951, and began her college career at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill where she met the love of her life, Harvey Andrews Culpepper, Jr. from Rocky Mount, NC. She graduated from Memorial Mission Hospital School of Nursing in Asheville in 1955 before marrying Harvey in 1956. Together they had three daughters, Jacque, Jan, and Andrea, and lived in Charlotte, Raleigh, Selma NC, and Danville VA, before settling in Waynesville, NC in 1966. Harvey died in an automobile accident in 1972. Ann returned to college and received a BS in Health Education, a Masters degree in Human Resource Development, and spent the last 15 years of her career as a passionate nursing instructor at Haywood County Community College. In 1995 she moved to the Twin Oaks Community in Cornelius to be near her daughters and enjoy her grandchildren. During her retirement, Ann loved to fish, paint and knit. Her love of doing crosswords resulted in her publishing a book called Pepper's Crossword Puzzle Helper. Most recently, she was known and loved as "Miss Annie" at Churchill Assisted Living in Mooresville and Autumn Care Nursing Home where she died on December 20, 2015. Besides her husband, Ann was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Andrea who followed in her mother's footsteps and became a Registered Nurse. Surviving children are Jacquelyn Culpepper Huffman (Clem) of Cornelius and Jan Culpepper Fortune (Dan) of Troutman, NC. Her sister, Lorene Browning Collins lives in Murfreesboro, TN. Ann was "Mimi" to three very loved grandchildren: Jessica Huffman Causey, Jared Fortune, Callie Huffman and one great grandson, Bryce Causey. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Cornelius. The service will be in the chapel at James Funeral Home in Huntersville, NC on Sunday, December 27 at 3pm followed by a reception in the community room of James Funeral Home. Ann's family would like to express their appreciation to all the wonderful care providers at Churchill Senior Living, Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, Autumn Care, and Hospice of Lake Norman for providing such loving care for Miss Annie during her months of illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Andrea Culpepper Nursing Scholarship, Office of Development/Alumni Affairs, Western Carolina University, Cullowhee, NC 28723.2 |

Sutton Jr. She is survived by her husband, Dennis Culpepper; four children, Nadine and Ben Strickland and their children, Bennett, Graeme all of Greenville, NC; Dennis Wayne Jr. and Yara Culpepper and their child, Dennis Wayne, III, all of Cary, NC; Chris and Mechell Culpepper and their children, Elizabeth and Caroline all of Dublin, GA; and Cynthia Culpepper of Raleigh, NC; sisters, Martha and George Robbins of Rocky Mount, NC; Peggy and Jesse Carver of Rocky Mount, NC; Margaret and Marshall Deans of Myrtle Beach, SC; and Betty Schmudlach of Montello, WI. A special friend and niece, Nancy Pierce Turner along with many other nieces and nephews. (sic) A special thanks to her friends the caregivers at Autumn Care and the nurses on the fourth floor of Nash General Hospital.
