Six months later, Orval married Fay Nell Crump and he went off to war. He served in the Pacific Theatre in Hawaii, then at Leyte in the Philippines.1 Orval Frederick Combs was killed on Okinawa in Japan on 9 Apr 1945.1 World War II ended four months later.
