Then he returned to Phillips Petroleum and eventually became the project manager for the Engineering Department, building refineries in Alaska, Louisiana, Texas, and he helped develop the Ekofisk field in the North Sea. As they say in Georgia, he was a hell of an engineer. He was with Phillips for over 30 years. "I was serving in Vietnam in 1967 and was notified that he was dying, so, I was given a compassionate reassignment to Oklahoma City where I worked with the 112th Military Intelligence Group. I was able to spend the last four months of Dad's life taking care of him on weekends. He passed away on March 6, 1968."1 |

William Willis Coggin1
M, (circa 1832 - 14 March 1864)
Birth* | circa 1832 | William was born circa 1832. |
Marriage* | 1 February 1859 | He married Peninah Eure at Wilson Co., North Carolina, on 1 February 1859. |
Death* | 14 March 1864 | He died at Orange Co., Virginia, on 14 March 1864. |
Biography* | | From Deborah Coggins Gammon, July 2000: . Found on the Oldfield District of Wilson Co. NC Census in 1860, W. W. Coggin and Penina with William 5, and James B. 7 months. W. W. is listed to be 26. On his muster roll for the Civil War, it plainly says he enlisted on March 1, 1862 at the age of 36. But I believe I have the correct W. Coggin, because the muster roll also list his widow as Penina. I have learned that during censuses, if no one was home, the census taker could get the information from a neighbor within 3 miles. . Taken from North Carolina Troops: 1861-1865: 2nd Company H- This company was raised in Nash County and began organizing at Nashville in March, 1862. After serving initially as 2nd Company H, 12th Regiment NC Troops(2nd Regiment NC Volunteers), the company was transferred to the 32nd Regiment NC Troops on July 22, 1862, and was designated Company H. Because it was the second of two companies to serve in the 32nd Regiment as Company H, it was known officially as 2nd Company H. . Willis' first wife, Melvina Coggin had a brother listed on the 1850 Census as J. J. Coggin, age 14. In the same Company as Willis was a John J. Coggin, Private who resided in Nash County where he enlisted at the age of 27, March 1, 1862, the same day as Willis, for the war. He was present or accounted for until he deserted on June 4, 1863. He rejoined the company on September 28, 1863. Present or accounted for until captured at Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia, May 10, 1864. Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, May 18, 1864. Transferred to Elmira, New York, August 3, 1864. Died at Elmira on July 5, 1865, of "chronic diarrhoea." |

Married Name | 1 February 1859 | As of 1 February 1859, her married name was Coggin. |
Death* | after 1880 | She died at Nash Co., North Carolina, after 1880. |
Biography* | | From Deborah Coggins Gammon, July 2000: . On the Taylor's Township of Wilson Co Census, found Peninah Coggin keeping house for her brother, Dempsey Eure. Having Pharo 8 and Patrick 7. No mention of James B. or William. The year was 1870. On the Castalia Township, Nash Co. 1880 Census, found Penny Coggin with William, 24, listed as stepson, Cornelius P., 19, son, and Lawrence P., son, 17. I believe that Cornelius P. is Pharo of the 1870 Census. |
