Obituary*26 January 1999 Evelyn Dough Culpepper, 93, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, in a Chapel Hill hospital. Mrs. Culpepper, born in Virginia Beach, was a longtime resident of Nags Head, and a homemaker. She was the daughter of the late Mills and Addie Willis Dough and the widow of the late Charlie Sherman Culpepper. Mrs. Culpepper is survived by three daughters, Fay Culpepper of Chapel Hill, Shirley Culpepper Turpin of Kill Devil Hills and Pat Culpepper Jennette of Kitty Hawk; a son, Sherman Culpepper of Virginia Beach; and several grandchildren. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo. Burial will be in Dolly Cemetery, Nags Head. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.2 
Burial*27 January 1999 Her body was interred on 27 January 1999 at Dolly Cemetery, Nags Head, Dare Co., North Carolina.2

Biography* The Pooles have for generations been prominent in the beloved Nails Creek Church. The first known clerk (probably a charter member) was William Poole (Elijah's grandfather), who also served as Deacon. This William Poole helped build the second church building when the first became too small to accomodate the growing membership. His son, George Poole, was also clerk and Deacon for many years and George's son, Elijah, was recorder of the church activities for a time also.6
