She was a former teacher at Kitty Hawk Elementary School and was also a real estate broker with Beach Realty. She was a member of the Outer Banks Board of Realtors and St. Andrew's by the Sea Episcopal Church. Mrs. Hudgins was the daughter of Levin B. and Jane Aydlett Culpepper of Elizabeth City and the wife of Frank W. Hudgins of the home. Besides her husband and parents, Mrs. Hudgins is survived by one sister, Nancy Culpepper Spruill of Nags Head; one brother, Stephen H. Culpepper of Southern Shores; one niece; and two nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Andrew's by the Sea Episcopal Church, Nags Head, by the Rev. Hilary West. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in West Lawn Cemetery, Elizabeth City, by the Rev. Hilary West and the Rev. Doug Murray. Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo, is in charge of arrangements. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Andrew's by the Sea Episcopal Church or the American Cancer Society.5 |

He was civilian employee in charge of the civilian employees handling the powder. The newspaper said that 4 men were killed, but you know how great-aunts can distort a story. His father (Clayton) was the older brother to my great grandmother, Ada, who didn't marry a Culpepper."1,3 |

Kathleen "Kitty" was a very active member of Churchland Baptist Church, Chesapeake, where she was a member and secretary of The Rachel Sunday school class. She enjoyed being able to use her talent and love of sewing to make many of the costumes used for the church's activities. She also was very active with the children's church, the church's fellowship hall and kitchen work. She was able to work with ladies in her Sunday school class as they made blankets for children in crisis for The Rachel Class Blanket Project. Many thanks to her dear friends of her Sunday school class for their comfort and help they gave to their beloved friend, Kathleen. Kathleen enjoyed spending much of her time in the garden and in the sewing room. She was a former founder and president of the Port Norfolk Garden Club. Garland and Kathleen enjoyed traveling to antique car shows, quilt shows and train shows. A funeral celebrating her life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Churchland Baptist Church with a burial at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Following internment, there will be a reception in the fellowship hall of Churchland Baptist Church to celebrate Kathleen's life. Memorial contributions can be made to Churchland Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
