Marshallville, Ga. - Mrs. Emma Frederick Lester, widow of William E. Lester, died here Wednesday after a life-long residence in Marshallville. She was born February 16, 1867, the daughter of Donald Barton and Amanda Shuler Frederick, who were among the pioneers from South Carolina to this region. She is survived by three children, James P. Lester and Miss Florence Lester, both of Marshallville and Mrs. H. M. Culpepper of Louisville, Ga. and by a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at the Marshallville Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 20, the body to lie in state there for the hour preceding. Interment will be in the Marshallville Cemetery. The family requests that flowers be omitted.

     A memorial service for Howard J. Culpepper, 75, of Coos Bay, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, at the Bible Baptist Church, 14th and Oak, North Bend. The Rev. Roy Meksch will officiate. Cremation rites have been held.
     Howard was born Oct. 22, 1928, in Hattiesburg, Miss., the son of Howard E. and Gladys (Sledge) Culpepper. He died June 3, 2004, in Coos Bay.
     Howard was raised and educated in Mississippi. He moved in the late 1940s to Cottage Grove, where he worked as a welder in the sawmill. In 1955, he moved to Coos Bay. On Oct. 26, 1960, he married Delores Prosa in Reno, Nev. They made their home in Coos Bay. He worked at several area mills until retiring in 1990.
     He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and most of all, playing with his grandchildren.
     He is survived by his wife, Delores Culpepper of Coos Bay; son, Kenneth and Cindy Culpepper of Eugene; daughters, Gail and James Peterson of North Bend, Joyce and Larry Davis of Everett, Wash., Nancy and Paul Sheppard of Coos Bay and Samantha and Kenneth Dew of Coos Bay; 14 grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, James, Jennifer, Heather, Shawn, Aaron, Kelly, Jeff and Janice, Sara, Logan, Cody and Alex; and three great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Ostyn and Jake.
     He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Karin? Davis; and a sister, Geneva Smith.
     Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson's Bay Area Mortuary, 267-4216.1

     A private service will be held later this summer for Delores Marion Culpepper, 67, of Coos Bay. Delores was born Nov. 13, 1939, in Hibbing, Minn., the second of three children born to Gilbert and Dorothy (Aura) Prosa. She died in Hillsboro on June 5, 2007. She was raised in Hibbing, until her family moved to North Bend in 1946. Delores married Howard J. Culpepper on Oct. 26, 1960, in Reno, Nev. They made their home in Coos Bay. She was first and foremost a homemaker. Delores and Howard raised five children, as well as caring for more than 300 foster children. She was always very close to her children and grandchildren. Delores is survived by her five children and their spouses, Mary "Gail" and James Peterson of North Bend, Joyce and James "Larry" Davis of Everett, Wash., Kenneth and Cindy Culpepper of Eugene, Nancy and Paul Sheppard of Coos Bay, and Samantha and Ken Dew of Coos Bay; one brother, Curtis Prosa and wife, Nancy of Lebanon; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and other family and friends.
