Dr. John C. Williams
M, (5 October 1828 - 22 March 1858)
Birth* | 5 October 1828 | He was born on 5 October 1828 at Chesterfield District, South Carolina.1 |
Marriage* | circa 1853 | He married Jeannette Burgess circa 1853.1 |
Death* | 22 March 1858 | He died on 22 March 1858 at age 29.1 |
Biography* | | He was the son of Dr. Alexander Williams and S. E. Craig, (of Chesterfield Dist.) Dr. Alexander Williams was the son of Capt. Charles Williams and a Miss McRae or McCrae. Capt. Charles Williams was born abt. 1770 in the Mecklenberg Dist. of Virginia and died in Bishopville, York Dist., SC. He was m. 3 times. 1) Elizabeth McCottrym 2) McRae or McCraem and 3) Anne Chandler. He was the son of Matthew Williams b. in Wales, England and a Miss Johnson also born in Wales.
The following is from Marie Thiele: "In Capt. Charles Williams' obituary in the Christian Advocate, it states that he was at Yorktown at the end of the Revolution. I found only one Capt. Charles Williams at Yorktown along with a William Nance who served with him there. Therefore, he is from Pittsylavania Co., VA and he is the son of Lt. Charles Williams of that County. William Nance noted in the inventory of Capt. Williams' estate. There obviously have been conflicts with this family in naming of Capt. Williams father--even the DAR has named the father Capt. Williams rather than the son and another family states that Lt. Williams is the father of another Charles Williams. I am descended from Judge Thomas McCottry Williams and Mary Ann Shrewsbury; they moved to Hayneville, Ala.--of his 9 sons, only 3 survived following the Civil War- a Methodist minister and two sons who were injured during the war. Three died before the war and three during the war--this family suffered greatly. My great-grandfather was John McCottry Williams, the son of Judge Williams. Perhaps, the family can finally collect the proper information with proof and come to a final conclusion--the father of Capt. Charles Williams."1,2 |
