Obituary* | 13 November 2009 | Donald O. "Buck" Culpepper, 79, of Valdosta, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009 at Heritage House Nursing Home. He was born in Brooks County, Ga. on Oct. 14, 1930 to the late Obbie and Willie Mae Crosby Culpepper. Mr. Culpepper served in the United States Army from 1951 until his retirement in 1973. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion Post 13. After his retirement from the Army he worked as a supervisor for the Lerio Corporation. Mr. Culpepper is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lottie Culpepper of Valdosta; daughter and son-in-law, Eva and John Plowden of Valdosta; one son, William O. "Billy" Culpepper of Killeen, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Craig Bennett of Valdosta; four grandchildren, Christy Hawkins and her husband, Robert, Dawn Jepson and her husband, Allan, Travis Bennett, Brandon Culpepper; four great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Hawkins, Brady Jepson, Micah Hawkins and Kelsey Jepson. Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009 at 3 p.m. at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jerry Long officiating. Burial will follow. Full military honors will be rendered. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. this evening at the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to United Hospice of Valdosta, 407 Cowart Avenue, Valdosta, GA 31602. Obituary* | 16 February 1908 | Death of Miss Alta King Milledgeville, Feb. 16. Miss Alta King, daughter of Mr. J. B. King, of the Black Springs district, died suddenly yesterday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Willie Moore. Miss King was talking to several persons and she coughed, and immediately she had a hemorrhage from a broken blood vessel, from which she died before a doctor could be gotten. Miss King lived in Milledgeville with her sister, Mrs. Culpepper, who was prostrated with grief when she found her sister dead. Miss King leaves two brothers and four sisters, her mother died about nine years ago. One of her brothers is very ill in Milledgeville with pleurisy and the family is apprehensive of his condition. (Note: Alta and Lonnie Babb had applied for a marriage license; she died before they married.)2 |
