Rev. W. Taft Ogden, pastor of the Statesville Church of God, came to the local church in September 1946 from Homeville, Ga. Rev. Mr. Ogden was born and reared in Wayne county, Ga. His family includes his helpmate, who was before her marriage, Miss Lela B. Culpepper, of Eccles County, Ga. They have ten children: Edward, 17, a student at Senior high school; Mary, 16, a student at the Bible school in Sevierville, Tenn; Elmer 15, at Junior high; Grace 13, at Junior high; LeVerne eight; Billy 12; and Spencer seven, all students at Avery Sherrill school; Henry Lamar five; Leroy Douglas four, and Richard Glendon 14 months of age. Rev. Mr. Ogden likes to be classified as "just an old country boy," but his looks belie that description. He was with the Homeville Church of God for a period of three years, with an overall pastorate of eight years in various churches. The work done in his several fields includes various churches and a parsonage. He was district overseer of ten churches in Valdosta, Ga. The Statesville Church of God has made splendid progress under the leadership of Rev. Mr. Ogden, gains in membership, spirituality in the church increased, and a successful revival just concluded being some things accomplished. |
