On the Atlantic coast in the Northeast Region of Florida, Duval County was formed in 1822 from Saint Johns County. In 1858, the southern part of Duval was split off to form Clay County. In 1968, the Jacksonville City and Duval County governments consolidated. Jacksonville is on I-95 at the terminus of I-10, and it is about 25 miles south of the FL/GA border. Duval is bordered by the counties of Nassau, Clay, Baker and Saint Johns.
