John Timothy HAHN, son of John Henry HAHN and Elizabeth "Betsy" BARRIER, was born on 18 Jan 1844 in North Carolina, USA,(1, 2, 3, 4) died on 25 Oct 1933, at age 89,(1, 5) and was buried in 1933 in Mount Pleasant, Cabarrus County, North Carolina, USA Mount Gilead Lutheran Church Cemetery (1, 6).

General Notes: Military record online shows Company G for military, tombstone has Company H.

He lost his voice during the Civil War, and was only able to speak in a whisper after that.

1930 Cabarrus County North Carolina Census, household of son, Willis, shows John T, age 85, age at 1st marriage was 20 (was he previousl married?), born North Carolina as were both of his parents.

1957 Article in scrapbook of Mittie Hahn Ritchie, Aug 25, 1957 - The old lady set barefoot and contented on the back porch peeling apples and cutting them up to dry on a cloth in the yard. "Look out there" she motioned her knife toward the garden. "It's all burned up - this is the hottest and driest summer I've ever seen in all my 91 years." Mrs Jeff Davis' (Aunt Frances Hahn) continued to talk about the unusual weather ...

Mrs Hahn and her daughter, Miss Myrtie Hahn, live alone in the house that her husband's father built more than 100 years ago.

"You see that tree," she pointed out a large poplar in the front yard.

"My husband's two oldest brothers - Martin and John - set it out one Sunday afternoon when they were just young chaps." Martin was later killed in the Civil War and John contracted typhoid fever.

General Notes: 1900 The June census has his birth date as 1875, age 24.

During the winter months, Paul, Atlas and Justus sawed lumber for neighboring farmers and at harvest time, they threshed wheat and hulled clover for surrounding farms.

Hahn Funeral Is Set Today Mt Pleasant - Funeral services for Paul A Hahn Sr, will be conducted today at 3:30 p.m. from Mt Gilead Lutheran Church.

Rev J D Lindler, pastor, will officiate, assisted by the Rev Tommy Bennett, pastor of First Baptist Church here.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr Hahn, 83 year old resident of Township 8, died Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at his home. He had been in declining health one year and seriously ill several days.

Son of the late John Timothy and Mary Katherine Eudy Hahn, he was born Aug 31, 1874, in Cabarrus County.

He was a retired farmer and charter member of Mt Gilead. He married Miss Madie Corino Crowell in 1897. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs C A Cook of Concord and Mrs F B Moose of Rt 1 Mt Pleasant; two sons, John M Hahn of Rockwell and Paul A Hahn Jr of Rt 1 Mt Pleasant; seven grandchildren, one great grandchild; a brother, W E Hahn of Rt 1 Mt Pleasant; and three sisters, Mrs George Barrier and Mrs M C Barringer, both of Mt Pleasant and Mrs Howard Moose of Albemarle.

The body was taken from Peninger Funeral Home yesterday at 5:30 p.m. to the home.

The body will lie in state at the church 30 minutes prior to the final rites.

1963 OBITUARY in Scrapbook of Mittie Hahn Ritchie (handwritten date May 11-1963): Mrs Barrier Passes At 86 MT PLEASANT - Mrs Mattie Hahn Barrier, 86, died Friday at 12:45 pm at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital after several years of declining health.

She was critically ill for a short time.

Born in the Hahn community near Mt Pleasant, March 4, 1877, she was the daughter of the late John Timothy Hahn and Mrs Mary E Hahn.

She was the widow of George L Barrier, prominent farmer, who died in 1912.

She continued to operate the large farm in cooperation with her young sons.

She was successful at farming, and later went into dairy farming and established the well-known Green Hills Dairy Farm.

Mrs Barrier was a lifelong loyal member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and participated in all phases of church work.

Her interest in the cultivation of flowers was known by all citizens of the community.

Funeral services will be held today at 3 pm from Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Mt Pleasant, Rev Jack L Davis, pastor, will officiate at the service.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be George Rictor Hahn, Bart Hahn, J T Barringer, Guy Moose, George F Hahn and John Hahn.

Mrs Barrier is survived by two daughters, Mrs S Kay Patterson of Concord and Mrs J Luther Mauney of Roanoke VA; three sons, L Bowman Barrier of Mt Pleasant, John Daniel Barrier of the home and George L Barrier Jr of Kannapolis; and one sister, Mrs M C Barringer of Mt Pleasant.

Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

The body will remain at Penninger Funeral Home in Mt Pleasant until the funeral hour.

Her tombstone shows her husbands name and her parents names.

1956 Article in scrapbook of Mittie Hahn Ritchie, handwritten date April 22, 1956 - Barringers Put Emphasis On Flowers - Beautiful can hardly describe the brilliantly colored yard of Mr and Mrs M C Barringer of this community.

There are more than 50 different types of flowers in bloom at their home, located near Holy Trinity Lutheran Church....

Mrs Barringer, who said she has loved flowers ever since she was a small girl, has worked with the flowers at her present home for the past 39 years....

Her husband, who retired three years ago as a barber, is also a flower enthusiast and the two can be seen almost daily working in the yard - planting, transplanting, watering or checking for insects in the flowers....

1963 Her sister's obituary names Mrs M C Barringer of Mt Pleasant NC as a surviving sister and this is the only living sister at the time.

1977 Her tombstone is inscribed EMMA ESSIE HAHN WIFE OF MARTIN C BARRINGER SR JAN 19, 1885 FEB 22, 1977. Willis Edward HAHN was born on 15 Apr 1890 in Mount Gilead, Cabarrus County, North Carolina, USA,(2, 9, 12, 16, 31, 32) died on 2 Jun 1958 in North Carolina, USA, at age 68,(12, 16, 33) and was buried in 1958 in Mount Pleasant, Cabarrus County, North Carolina, USA Mount Gilead Lutheran Church Cemetery (12, 18).
