This is a continuation of letters since 2007. The letters are published so that if you're researching Hawns, you might find something useful. If you can't find what you're looking for, write your own letter for publishing in this space. Maybe one of the Hawn researchers will be able to help!

Hi Linda,

Thank you for including me in your mailing.Do you know if there is a list of the members of the Southfork Church?

Also, your link to the Hahn burials at Zion Lutheran, the portion I would like to see, does not load for some reason. The surname I am searching is CLAY.

Thanks for thinking of me.

Hi Mary,

I found the page you're looking for but there was no Clay listed on it. BUTthe good news is, I have a copy of all the cemeteries in the county with the list of all the "residents" thereof. If you will tell me who you're looking for,I can find him. So you;ll tell me who you're looking for I can find out where he's buried in Catawa County.

Linda

(Note to all correspondents: this edition of the Hawn/Hahn family history has a full list of burials at Zion and throughout Catawba County.)

(The following is a note on my Rootsweb web page from Beth Walton. No date.)

Hi Linda,

This is Abner Terril Womack, b. 23 Apr 1830 Jackson Co., AL, d. 1902 St. Francois County, MO, son of William "Buck" Womack and Sarah McBee. Lucinda is Lucinda Hahn, b. ca. 1827 MO, d. bef. 1865 Perry Co., MO, daughter of Christian Hahn, b. 1799 NC, d. 1877 Yount, Perry Co., MO and Elizabeth Grounds, b. 1803 GA, d. aft. 1860 Perry Co., MO.

I see you have Christian and Elizabeth (Betty) Grounds Hahn, but you don't have Lucinda as their daughter. In 1850 Abner and Lucinda are living next to her brother, Joshua Hahn. Abner Womack and Lucinda Hahn married 3 May 1849 Perry Co., MO.

Hi Beth,

I've finished making changes to the Womack line in my database. Please look it over and see what mistakes I've made and need to correct.

Hey Linda,

The first error I see is that I DO NOT believe that William "Buck" Womack was a brother of David Womack, son of Jacob Womack and Sarah Johnson. It has been proven that he WAS NOT the son of Abraham Womack and Elizabeth Stubblefield as some reseachers believe.

William Womack, born 11 Nov 1753 (possibly) Halifax Co., VA, died 20 Jan 1820 Sweeten's Cove, Marion Co., TN, son of (possibly) Jacob Womack and Sarah Johnson.

He married Lucinda "Lucy" Womack, born 17 Jun 1761 Halifax Co., VA, died Nov 1816 Marion Co., TN or Jackson Co., AL, daughter of Thomas Womack and Louvisa Rice. Child of William Womack and Lucinda "Lucy" Womack:

William "Buck" Womack, born ca. 1795 Rutherford Co., NC, died Apr 1870 Perry Co., MO. He's buried in Whitewater Cemetery, Perry Co., MO.

He married Sarah McBee, born 20 May 1796 Franklin Co., GA, died 12 Oct 1851 Perry Co., MO. She's buried in Yount Cemetery, Perry Co., MO.

I might be able to find Sarah McBee's parents, but I don't remember who they were off hand.

Your family group sheet is looking good!

Beth

Linda,

I'm sorry I didn't make myself clear the first time about William "Buck" Womack and his father, William Womack.

I've tried to get my line correct, but as time goes on and we find more records, sometimes it's necessary to make corrections and I've just learned to be flexable. There's very little documentation, i.e. Wills, Bible records, etc. on William and Lucinda's children. I've had to rely on land, court, census and only one or two marriage records for my own Womacks. There are only census indices for 1820 through 1840 with only heads of households listed. The first Federal Census was 1795, and in TN not much before 1830. And as you know, many, many court houses burned before, during and after the Civil War, destroying our precious records. One of the worse losses we have in genealogy is having the 1890 census burn in Washington, DC. Twenty years is a long span of time between census records.

My David Womack's sister, Martha Womack married Robert Bean. Their daughter, Martha Bean married Levi Berry Womack, brother of your William "Buck" Womack. Now we have two Womack lines involved. In my office, I have paper copies of the research of three Bean and or Womack researchers, two of which were done back in the 1950s & 1960s. One lady's work was for admittance to DAR on the Revolutionary War service of Maj. Jacob Womack, including everything she ever found on any Womack, but she never proved Jacob's service. However, she has some early court records, land transactions and other records in GA and TN, which have both Robert Bean and the some of the children William Womack and Lucinda Womack. They must have spent a few years in GA before going back to TN. I'm sorry, but I don't have any more birth, death and marriage records in my files for the descendants of William and Sarah McBee Womack's children and grandchildren. But I'm here if you get stumped on the Womacks or any of your lines. I'd love to help you.

Beth

(From Linda: Beth, I'm leaving out much of what you sent me about the Womacks because I'm getting so far afield of the Hahns/Hawns. Doesn't mean I'm not interested, just means I've got to get back on track.)
