Personal Histories of Allen County, Ohio -- 1875
SPENCER TOWNSHIP WILLIAM COURT, son of Frederick and Ozilla Court, was born in Ross county, in 1820. He married Matilda Dalson, who was born in Pennsylvania, in 1827. She is a sister of James Dalson. Mr. Court's brothers and sisters--George, Joseph, Mary, Amanda, Elizabeth and Phoebe. The children of William and Matilda Court are Phoebe P., Elizabeth O., William J. and Mary M. Mr. Court has been justice of the peace five years. THEODORE EYSENBACH was born in Germany, in the year 1848, and while yet an infant was brought to Allen County by his parents, Wendelin and Margaretta Eysenbach. He has three brothers--William, Henry and Louis; and two sisters--Mary and Lina. J S FOGLE was born in Morrow county in 1827, and came to this county in 1850. His parents, John and Deborah Fogle, came in 1858. His wife was Miss Harvey, born in the State of New York. They have two children, Flora and Byron. JOHN H HARBISON was born in Baltimore, Maryland, April 14, 1819. His wife was born at Dresden, Ohio, July 30, 1825. Their children are Robert H., Wm. Franklin, Mary Augusta, Charles H., and Margaret and Agnes (twins). Mr. H.'s parents, Robert and Mary Harbison, had three other children--Joseph, Susan and Mary. Mrs. H. was Harriet H. Webb, only child of Nathan and Eliza Webb. JOHNZEY KEETH, son of John and Mary Keeth, was born in Maryland, in the year 1817. He has a brother, Jacob, and three sisters--Mary, Sarah and Sophia. His wife was Priscilla Arnold, daughter of John and Rachel P. Arnold, and sister of John, Samuel, Elijah, Elizabeth and Mary. The children of Johnzey and Priscilla Keeth are John, Samuel, Anderson, Jacob, Francis M., Rachel E. and Mary. Mr. Keeth was county commissioner for six years, and justice of the peace in Amanda Township seven years. GEORGE MEIHLS, son of John and Sarah Meihls, was born in Germany, in the year 1838. He has four brothers and one sister--John, Andrew, Jacob, Philip and Elizabeth. His wife is a daughter of John and Anna Neidhart, and sister of Peter and John Neidhart. She was born in Germany, in 1850. Their children are, Susan, Matilda H., George, Minnie, Philip and William Allen. WILLIAM MEYER was born in Germany, in the year 1824. His wife is also a native of Germany, born 1833. They have eight children--Minnie, Louisa, Julius, William, Henry, Clara, Dora and Mary. Mr. M. is a son of Henry and Julia Meyer, and brother of Dora, Lottie and William Meyer. Mrs. M.'s parents, Henry and Margaret Backhaus, came from Germany in 1846. Their children are Henry, Frederick, William, Richard and Dora. O W PURDY, son of Elijah and Clarinda, and brother of Julia A., Lucinda, Mercy J., Edward, Richard, Ephraim, Eliab and John Purdy, was born in Holmes County, in the year 1828. He married Mary Ann Carpenter. Their children are Priscilla, John, Ruth, George, Catharine, Elijah, Clara and Franklin. Mrs. Purdy was born in Guernsey County, in the year 1828. She is a daughter of Aaron and Priscilla Carpenter. She has one sister, Catharine. Mr. Purdy has held the offices of township trustee and supervisor. L C SMITH and his wife are both natives of this county. Mr. Smith's parents, William and Elizabeth Smith, came from Greene County, in 1834; and his wife's parents, Enoch and Levina Brower, came the same year, from Virginia. Mr. S. was born in 1848--his wife in 1850. They have one child, William C. Mr. Smith's brothers and sisters are, Melvina, Sarah, James, Emily, Columbus, America, and Isabella. JOHN N UNCAPHER was born in Marion county, in 1834. His wife was born in the same year, in Pennsylvania. He is a son of Philip and Jane Uncapher. She is a daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth Brenner. Their children are, Cinderella, Lucien J. and Ellen. Mr. Uncapher has held the offices of justice of the peace and township trustee. THOMAS A WASHBURN was born in this county, in the year 1828. His mother came from Dayton to Fort Amanda, in 1814, with her first husband, Andrew Russell. Her daughter, Susannah Russell, now the wife of C. C. Marshall, of Delphos, was the first white child born in Allen county. The family lived many years in one of the old block-houses of Fort Amanda. Mr. W.'s father, Samuel, came from Tennessee. Mrs. Washburn is a daughter of Allen and Anna Jones. She was born in Miami County, in 1826. James M. Jones is her brother, and she has one sister. Mr. Washburn's brother and sisters are Joseph Russell and Jinkey, Handy and Edia Washburn. His children are Lydia, Handy, Belle, Alice, Brown and James F. TILMON WILKIN was born in Licking County, April 7, 1837. His wife was born in Tuscarawas County, Feb. 7, 1846. Their children are Carrie Belle, born July 28, 1862; Charles M., March 4, 1864; Alice, Aug. 19, 1868; John E., Aug. 5, 1870; Anna, Sept. 6, 1871; and Alvah, April 14, 1873. The eldest was born in Auglaize County; all the others in this county. Mr. W.'s parents are Jonathan and Scotta Wilkin, whose children are Michael, Lydia, Sarah, Caroline, Tilmon, John and Jonathan. Mrs. Wilkin was Sarah Elizabeth Biner, daughter of Wesley and Ann Biner. She has a sister, Rebecca, and four brothers--Nathaniel, George W., Lewis and John. Mr. Wilkin holds the office of constable. GEORGE WOLFORD, son of G. and Margaret Wolford, and brother of Rachel, Christina, Minnie and Elizabeth, was born in Marion County, in the year 1835. His wife, daughter of John and Catharine Bock, was born in the same county, in the year 1840. Their children are, Minnie L., John A., William J., Nellie J., Emma C. and Charles A.
