Descendants of Sarah Norman and Charles Rush

1. Sarah Norman (William4, Joseph3, Isaac2, Joseph1) was born June 25, 1794 in Wilkes County, Ga, and died May 03, 1859 in Marion County, Al. She married (1) Timothy Walton November 23, 1809 in Lincoln County, Ga. She married (2) Charles George Rush Bef. 1828 in Lincoln County, Ga. He was born February 08, 1786 in North Carolina, and died December 09, 1857 in Alabama.

Notes for Sarah Norman:

Born June 25, 1794 in Wilkes County (later Lincoln County), Georgia. She died near Tuskegee, Alabama on May 3, 1859. She first married Timothy Walton on November 23, 1809, in Lincoln County, GA. There were probably several children of this marriage, but I have no record of them. Sometime after Timothy's death, Sarah married Charles George Rush and moved to Alabama, where she died in Marion County and was buried in the Rush Cemetery.

Recently I received the following information from a descendent of Charles Rush and Sarah Norman;

In Loundes County, Alabama there is a Stone family cemetery. The markers say:

Caroline Stone, wife of Barton W. Stone, Daughter of Timothy and Sarah Walton, Born in Ga. Sept. 18, 1818. Died in Montgomery County, AL Oct 9, 1841.

Elizabeth Stone, wife of A.B. Stone, daughter of Timothy and Sarah Walton, Born May 27, 1812. Died Montgomery County, Ala. March 11, 1844. Sacred to the memory of Elizabeth Stone daughter of Timothy and Sarah Walton who was born in Ga. May 27, 1812 died Montgomery Co. Ala March 11, 1844.

In Sarah's will she mentions a F.W. Walton who lived in Benton Ala.; a Sarah Harris, widow of Britton Harris; Mary Harris a granddaughter; Warren Stone, George W. Stone, Eliza Stone who is a minor and lives in Montgomery Co. Sophia Motley wife of Zeb Motley who resides in Texas, Warren Stone, Absolom Stone, James Stone, Thomas Stone, Caroline Stone in Texas and another Caroline Stone who resides in Tuskegee, Al. Also mentions her son Timothy W. Walton. (this is probably the F. W. Walton mentioned earlier, the F and T being similiar in handwriting) The will is on file in the Macon County, AL courthouse.

The following are excerpts written about Sarah Norman and her husband Charles G. Rush at their death.

"Sarah Rush was born in Lincoln County, GA in June 25, 1794. She made a profession of religion and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church in October 1822. Her life was devoted to the cause of Christ. She loved the church with a devotion seldom equaled, full of sympathy for the destitute and suffering her heart was always open to the calls of charity and her hands ever ready to meet the demands it made upon her. She died as she lived, confiding in God."

"Charles George Rush was born in North Carolina February 8, 1796. His father was a native of Holland who migrated to NC and settled near Raleigh. Charles migrated to Alabama, first to Old Washington in Autauga County, then to Montgomery County, finally locating in Marion County near Tuskeegee. He was raised in the Lutheran Church, but coming to a pioneer county where there was no church of his denomination he united with the Methodists. He joined the church in 1805, and was appointed Steward of the Church in 1826, which office he held until his death December 9, 1857. He was a man of great decision and firmness of character, an ardent lover of the people of God, emphatically the friend of the widow and orphan."
