Crocker Cemetery

Old Sumner Road

Buckfield, ME

This is a small, two-person cemetery with Caroline & Luther Crocker on Old Sumner Road, about 30 yards up from turn off from N. Buckfield Rd. (High Street). The house just before the cemetery - a large clapboard rambling house - belonged to William Bridgham Esq. (father of Caroline) according to an 1880 map of Buckfield, and Luther's will indicates that he had "arranged with Thomas Bridgham [? child of Wm P. Bridgham?] to build a tomb for me and family". On the corner of N. Buckfield Rd. and Old Sumner Rd. is another house owned by William P. [Pinkney] Bridgham (brother of Caroline) but occupied by Charles Foster. Next to that is the Unitarian Church. I speculate that Charles Foster was the pastor and the Bridghams allowed their house to be used as a rectory.
