Upper Kathlea is a grade II listed building
Map of Upper Kathlea Farm in 1843
Many references are simply to Gelli/Kellye/Kathlea/Celliau etc, without specifying whether Upper or Lower. Prichard families lived in both well into the 18th century and it seems most likely that they were two branches of the same family. Lower Kathlea is the older of the two, built 1500-1550 (though there may, of course, have been an earlier dwelling), and seems originally to have consisted of two attached, self-contained houses. Upper Kathlea was built about a century later, but it isn't clear whether it was intended as a grander house or simply as a dwelling for a junior member of the family. |
