The Complete Father Brown, G.K. Chesterton

Read G.K. Chesterton's The Complete Father Brown, which includes The Innocence of Father Brown, The Wisdom of Father Brown, The Incredulity of Father Brown, the Secret of Father Brown and The Scandal of Father Brown, a total of 997 pages.  The problem seems to be that there are often holes in the story.  For instance, the butler would have known the secret but he is disregarded.  Also, Father Brown is often vague in his explanations, allowing his companions to jump to wrong conclusions.  One very interesting facet is Father Brown's criminals often get away, but sometimes not before Father Brown has a private talk with them, hearing their confession and granting them absolution, we are lead to believe.
