Served as a Major in Co. D, 30th TX Cavalry during the Civil War. He was also called Harbie. He and Margaret Sophia Brewster moved to Coryell County, Texas, circa 1854. He was twice elected to the Texas State Senate. He started a newspaper in Belton, Texas. He and Overton Fletcher Davenport started Eastland County's first newspaper.
