Russell Cemetery is located near Earle, Arkansas. Leave Earle on Highway 149 going toward Lansing Community; turn right on first rock road leading from Highway 149; go approximately 3 miles. The cemetery is on left side of road. All the visible and readable markers were copied May 20, 1968.

The following graves were not included in the original survey from 1968 and have been added from my own information. The grave of A. R. Russell is located several yards from the remainder of the cemetery. It appears that he may have been the namesake for which the cemetery was named. A second marker is located to the foot of the grave of A. R. Russell. This appears to be a military marker, but is almost completely buried. Only the top of the marker is visible above ground. A third, unmarked grave is also to the left of A. R. Russell.

The following is taken from "A History of Crittenden County, Arkansas" by Margaret Elizabeth Woolfolk:

CLASSIE MINNIFIELD, who spent the last 27 years of her 105 years of life as a Crittenden Countian, was born a slave at Piney Woods, Mississippi, died in Earle February 4, 1951 and is buried in Russell Cemetery south of Earle.

All were members of the St. Lukes Church in Earle. The church was erected in 1961, cornerstone bears "Sterling Stone 1961", Pastor was O.C. Shipp. Sterling was Treasurer as well as a Deacon of the Church. He resided at RR1, Box 101; and Tommie and his family lived on Alabama Street, near Sterling.

Sterling was a WWI Vet, American Legionnaire, landowner and General Store proprietor (directly across the street or road from St. Lukes Church). He was famous for his Sunday Afternoon Bar-B-Q. People of all races would flock to the front of his General Store just to purchase "some of Fleming's Bar-B-Q".

Tommie and his wife, Ms. Bennie (as she was affectionately referred to) were also General Store proprietors in the swank "Earle's Uptown". Ms. Bennie, was a school teacher; Margie Beatrice (Beatrice or M.B.) was organizer of Crittenden County Fair for several years, member of the Mid-Wives Association, Eastern Star Tyronza Queen Chapter 198 and a member of American Legion women's Auxiliary.
