! Birth: (1) c.1685. (2a) ca. 1685/90, Drayton, Berkshire, England, s/o John COX/RACHEL. (2b ) ca. 1688/90. (3) c.1692. Circumstantial evidence indicates he was brother of William, Ri chard, Thomas, Ann and Amy COX. John, Thomas and Richard lived on adjacent farms in London G rove Twp., Chester Co., PA, by 1722, with Amy close by. William and Ann lived on nearby farm s in Mill Creek Hundred, New Castle Co., DE, where they both came ca. 1721. John, Thomas, Ric hard and Ann all went to York Co., PA in the 1730's, and John and a son of Thomas, William, w ent to NC in the 1750's. The presence and location of names on Quaker marriage certificates , especially in the right-most column after the signatures of the parents, the appropriate pl ace for the signature of an uncle or aunt of the bride or groom, suggest that relationship. T he complaints at Quaker meetings against children of these individuals because they married t heir first cousins also suggest that they were siblings. Naming patterns of these families s uggest that the parents may have been William COX/Rebecca: Ann COX/Casparaus GARRETSON name d children John and Ann (for his parents) and William and Rebecca. William COX/Catherine KIN KEY named children Harmon and Margaret (for her parents) and William and Rebecca. Amy COX/Jo hn ALLEN named children John, Amy, William and Rebecca. John COX/Mary (GARRETSON?) named a ch ild William. Thomas COX/Elizabeth FINCHER named a child Rebecca. Richard COX/Elizabeth SCARLE TT named children William and Rebecca. A William COX, b. 17 Feb 1658, s/o William COX/Elizabe th of Frampton Cotterill, Gloucestershire, England, appeared in the records of English Quarte rly Meeting and may be a candidate.
Marriage to Mary __: (1,2a) c.1713. (1) DE. (1,2a) Mary. (2b) Mary GARRETSON. [NOTE: See no tes under Mary for discussion on her identity.]

Harlan and John Cox/Mary Garretson need much work. Researchers claim the same
children for both families, and the several John Coxes are claimed to have
married Mary Harlan and/or Sarah Oldham and/or Hannah Jenkins. John Cox who had
a wife Mary lived in Huntington, York (now Adams) Co., PA. Jacob and Dinah Cox
were the only children of Mary Harlan mentioned in her father Moses Harlan's

in 1753) of Huntington. Warrington records referring to John of Huntington in
1753 do not say John Jr. or Sr., which seems to imply only one John, but if

could not be their daughter, which means another John Cox lived in
Huntington.)
