Daniel DAVISSON394 was born in 1748 in Devils Brook, New Jersey.394 He died in 1818 in Harrison County, West Virginia.394 [2170941singletary.FTW]
Daniel and Prudence had at least one son, Obadiah, who married Polly Webb on March 10, 1803. Obadiah and Polly had a daughter Jemima who was born ca. 1805. Jemima married Elias Hickman on September 8, 1825. My connection to the Davisson's is through Elias and Jemima's daughter, Mary Ann. At any rate, Daniel Davisson is credited with being the founder of Clarksburg, WVa. Daniel had prominent mention in the available court records of the 1780's and was an officer in the Virginia miltia. He ultimately held the rank of Major in the 11th Virginia Regiment. He was also voted as a delegate to the Virginia Assembly in 1801, 1802. Of his son Obadiah, we have very little information other than he was called to service as a ranger for 160 days in 1792. Obadiah's wife Polly's father appears to have been Benjamin Webb. We have no information on Prudence Izzard.
Daniel Davisson, a son of Obadiah and Elizabeth Davisson, was born
about 1747 and died in Harrison County VA (WV) in 1818. He married
Prudence Izzard.
In 1773, Daniel and Prudence built a log cabin on Elk Creek in
Harrison County VA on the present day site of Clarksburg, WV. Their
claim on 400 acres of land was recognized when the land commissioners
sat in Clarksburg in 1781.
By 1778, Davisson had permitted a number of settlers to build
cabins adjacent to his. One cabin joined another to form a wall that
made the little village a fort. In that time of Indian raids, a fort
was a necessary consideration.
At its first meeting near Buckhannon in 1784, the Harrison County
Court decided to place the county buildings on Daniel Davissons.
Georg Jackson asked permission at the same meeting to build a dam and
grist mill on Elk Creek about a hundred yards from the edge of the
village.
Daniel is everywhere in the court records of the 1780's. He
viewed the road "to Levi Shinn's", filled and order "to build stocks,
whipping post, and pillory" in 1785 and collected a shilling for
candles he furnished the justices in 1786. He accepted a place on the
committee to superintend construction of a building for Randolph
Academy in 1788 and proved to the court that he had worked 20 days in
1788 and 30 days in 1790 as a commissioner helping to cut a road from
the State Road near Kingwood to the mouth of the Little Kanawha River.
In 1788, he presented the court his commission as a Captain in The
Virginia militia.
The Harrison County court ordered a courthouse erected in 1787 and
by 1790, Daniel had built a residence and "ordinary" across the
street. This establishment functioned as a store, hotel, restaurant
and meeting place. In 1790, the county court accepted Hezekiah
Davisson in place of Daniel "to keep the road in repair from for of
Elk in Clarksburg to Limestone Creek and from the courthouse to the
mouth of the Elk".
Apparently the Davisson establishment served an unofficial
adjunct to the Courthouse. By 1795, the court authorized Daniel to
"keep the courthouse key and to sweep the courthouse clean for a year
at 15 shillings." By 1800, the court allowed Daniel "$12.50 for his
room to hold court for 1 year.
In 1799, Daniel was commissioned a Major in the 11th Regiment of
the Virginia Militia. That year the governor received Daniel's name
as a man likely to be a justice of Harrison County. Daniel was voted
a delegate to the Virginia Assembly in 1801 and in 1802. In 1817,
Daniel was appointed High Sheriff of Harrison County for 1 year.

Isaac Davvison, in 1781, received a certificate for four hundred acers on the West Folk River, Harrison County, Virginia, (now West Virginia), adjoing lands of John McCauley.
He was a Revolutionary War soldiar named in Book 22 of miscellaneous volumes of list of militia paid at Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. At the time of the Revolutionary War, he was a resident of Harrison County, Virginia. The Wisconsin Historical Sociaty has a five page affidavit made by Isaac Davidson (Davisson) in a pension application dated 12 November, 1832 (Draper Papers) in which he recites, " father's name was Obadaih Davisson, that he lived at a station in Harrison County, Virginia. He was a brother to Major Daniel Davisson... his age was 86 years...resided in Blue River Township, Johnson County, Indiana...volenteered as a ranger when in living in Harrison County, Virginia about 1 July, 1775 under Captain James Booth....later as a spy Major Daniel Davidson (Davisson) ... was at Mutters Fort not far from Clarksburg... removed to Ohio after the war and remained there until about 1820 ".
He was named with William Barkeley, Benjamin Coplin, Benjamin Wilson, Benjamin Robinson, George Jackson, as trustees to extend navigation on the Monongahola River and West Branch River. In 1820, Isaac and his son Isaac appear in the Clark and Lawrence County, census records and with several sons and nephews, removed to johnson County, Indiana in 1820-1821. MOSES E. DAVISSON was born in Clark County, Ohio, September 30, 1812, and is one of the four children born to Hezekiah and Phebe (Ellsworth) Davisson, named in order of birth, Solomon, Isabel, Mary and Moses. Of these, our subject is the only one living. The father was born in West Virginia. He helped to build Fort Meigs during the war of 1812, pursued farming as an occupation, and died in Jasper County, Ind., at the age of seventy-one.
The grandfather was a soldier in the Revolutionary war. When Moses E. was six years of age, he came with his father to what is now Johnson County, Ind.; in 1847, he moved to Jasper County; lived there about eight years, and thence moved to Francesville, where he was engaged for four years in mercantile business; during the late war, he resided in Jasper County; since 1873, he has made Medarysville his home.
He was married, January 28, 1832, to Mahala Earlywine, celebrating his golden wedding, or, as he terms it, family re-union, January 28, 1882. This couple have had born to them eleven children, of whom there are still living the following: Thomas, Sarah, Moses and Martha. During the Mexican war, Mr. Davisson was appointed Sheriff of Johnson County. He has served as Justice of the Peace in Jasper County and in Francesville, and is now filling that office in Medarysville, having been elected in 1876. In 1840, he began as a local preacher in the Methodist Episcopal Church; in the fall of 1866, he joined the Conference of the Methodist Protestant Church, and has been a member ever since; he was also a circuit rider in Northern Indiana about twelve years. He is a Freemason, and a highly respected citizen.

Obadiah received lands prior to the death of his father, 1759. The father's will has "to my son Obadiah Davison twenty shillings, money, &c." His land was along the Devil's Brook, a marshy quagmire like stream today, the first to enter the Millstone river north of Cranbury Brook, on the east.
About 1760, Obadiah sold his land to his brother-in-law and next bought land in Harrison County, Virginia. He may have stayed around Philadelphia for a short time prior to arriving in Virginia. Obadiah settled near the old salt works in Harrison County. He had "four hundred acres on Davison's run at the Big Lick" in the right of residence to include improvements made, 1773.

Information on Obadiah is sketchy. We know only that he
emigrated to Elk Creek, Harrison County VA sometime after 1773 to
join his son Daniel. His wife's name was Elizabeth. Parents: Josiah DAVISSON and Mary Winthrop SKELTON.
