The Downing tombstone is very close to the Eichar stone in the Wooster cemetery. In front of the large Downing and Eichar stones are nine small stones that have both Downing and Eichar names (see notes under Curtis W. Thompson). Joseph is listed as being a captian in Company A 120th OVI. He was 57 years; 10M; 10D. when he died. Elizabeth was 56 years; 17 days. OBITUARY:
Mrs. Lily E. Shock, 62, wife of Asa Shock, Rte. 1, Defiance, of Washington Township, died Wednesday, February 11, 1953, at 6:55 p.m. in Defiance City Hospital. She was admitted February 3, the day she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage at her residence. The body will remain at the Grisier Funeral Home, Stryker, for services Sunday at 2:00 p.m. followed by burial in the cemetery at Sherwood. Rev. L. J. Troop, pastor of the United Brethren Church, Sherwood, will officiate. Mrs. Shock was born in Delaware township on December 16, 1891. Her parents were John and Anna (Harding) Downing. Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Alta Shock, at home; a son, Lawrence Shock, Rte. 1, Defiance, a sister, Mrs. Alta Fett, Antwerp; and two grandchildren.
