Letter dated 18 Mar 1838 from Audiline M. Gill and Evelina L. Rauson of Columbus to Mrs. Gorton states that Mr. Gorton had asked them to name his daughter. "Please except these few things, from unacquanted but sincere, friends with the hope that we may hear-after have the pleasure of an acquaintance." (GOR-8) Marion Academy. During the winter of 1885, Boyd Lake froze to a depth of 117 inches. The children's teacher was boarding with the Family. After her husband's death, the family moved from the Lake to Loveland.
