That Sinah Lofton was the daughter of William Harden, Sen'r. who died intestate in Edgefield District S.C. in 1813 is proven in Edgefield equity court records in a lawsuit brought by John McDaniel and wife, Mary Harden McDaniel vs. the administrator and administratrix of William Harden's estate and others. William Harden's wife, Margaret, could not have been Sinah's mother since Sinah was born about 1776 and Margaret married William Harden between 1785 and 1787.
Family tradition, handed down from her grandson, Dr. Wm. Theodore Brooker, is that Sinah was descended from Sarah Morgan, sister of Gen. Daniel Morgan (1736-1802), of Rev. War fame and that Sarah married William Neely in Va. "The Morgan Family" states that Sarah Morgan married William Neely & they removed to Berkley Co., S.C. Reportedly, they moved to S.C. because they were living in a "hot bed of Tories" in N.C. There are court records of a William Neely in present day Laurens Co., S.C. (which was originally Berkeley Co.) If Sinah is descended from Sarah Morgan (sister of Gen. Daniel Morgan), they are at least two generations apart since there are 65 yrs. age difference between them. Another possibility is that William Harden's wife (the mother of Sinah) was a Morgan, but not necessarily the sister of Gen. Daniel Morgan. An Elias Morgan made purchases at the estate sale of William Harden. Could Elias be related to Sinah's mother?

1. A list of members of Bush River Baptist Church between 1792 and 1804 includes a Phoebe Hardin and a William Hardin as well as William Loftin and Margaret Loftin.
2. The 1800 Census for Edgefield Dist., S.C. enumerates a John Harden (10100-00100-00) and a William Harden (11011-21110-09) Index also lists a Michael Harden.
William Harden died intestate in Edgefield District, S.C. on November 3,1813. Sarah Harden, Samuel Marsh (Sarah's brother), and Robert Lofton (son-in-law) qualified as administratrix and administrators of William Harden's estate by posting bond (with Abner Blocker and William Hill) in the amount of sixteen thousand dollars. William Harden's widow and seven surviving children are named in a lawsuit instituted against the administrators and administratrix of the estate and "others" by John McDaniels and wife challenging the distribution of the proceeds of the estate. The widow (but not the mother of the children named) was Sarah Harden, the sister of Reverend Samuel Marsh. She had a daughter, Ann Drummond from a prior marriage to Robert Gardner. The children named in the suit were: William C. Harden; Henry G. Harden; Priscilla, wife of Marshal Pitman; Rachel, wife of Jeffrey Pitman; Elizabeth, wife of Daniel Marshal; Sinah, wife of Robert Lofton; and Mary, wife of John McDaniel.
At the death of William Harden, he possessed land located on Stevens Creek (149.5 acres) and Horns Creek (50 acres)

Seeking info on William Harden d. 1813 Edgefield Dist., SC leaving widow and 7 surviving children. Widow was Sarah "Sallie" (Marsh) Harden, sister of Rev. Sam'l. Marsh. Sarah had dau from previous marriage to Robert Gardner named Ann, who m. Benj. Drummond. Children of Wm. Harden living when his estate settled in 1817 were: William C., Henry G., Priscilla (m. Marshall Pittman), Rachel (m. Jefferson Pittman), Elizabeth (m. Daniel Marshall), Sinah (m. Robert Lofton), and Mary (m. John McDaniel). Priscilla, Rachel, Elizabeth, their husbands and Henry G. Harden living in Georgia in 1817. Wm. Harden had sizeable estate including tracts of land on Stevens Creek and Horns Creek in Edgefield Dist. Prior to his marriage to Sarah (Marsh) Gardner and by July 1787, Wm. Harden married Margaret Ryan, widow of Lacon Ryan who d. 1785. Wm. Harden's dau., Sinah was old enough to have a child born in 1791. Therefore, Margaret Ryan Harden could not have been mother of Sinah. Jack Pittman of Menifee, CA reports that he found the name "Elmira" written in pencil in book on the Marshall Pittman family as name of William Harden's wife. Wm. Harden was admin of estate of John Harden in Edgefield Dist in 1802. Wm. made several trips to Richmond Co., GA and Warren Co., GA to take care of business of John's estate. John was probably a son or brother of William Harden. William Harden may have been connected to Henry Harden of Chester Co., SC who m. Elizabeth Sealy and who d. bef Jul 1783. According to Mary S. Frazier of Memphis, TN., Henry Harden of Chester Co. was son of George Harding of Charleston, SC and Henry had brother John who was trader w/the indians in GA. Wm. Harden of Edgefield named son, Henry. Widow of Henry Harden, Elizabeth (Sealy) Harden later m. Robert Walker, Sr. A Robt Walker made purchases at estate of John Harden in 1802. Unknown if these Robt Walker's are same person.
