(1) The Kincaids, as a rule, were naturally attached to the Stuart cause by blood ties an d clan loyalty.
(2) 1696, 3 Sep & 10 Oct: James Kincaid and his servants were called to appear before the K irk Session.
(2) 1696, 18 Nov: James Kincaid appeared before the Kirk Session and acknowledged that he h ad caused to carry in and thresh some bear for straw to his horse on the Sabbath. He was app ointed to appear before the Congregation next Sabbath and receive a public rebuke. "This wa s the Laird of Kincaid and his servants having neglected to provide straw for his horses he s eems to have sent them out either to the field or the stackyard for a few sheaves of bear, wh ich he caused them to thrash on the Sabbath Day. His punishment was standing on the stool o f repentence, and received a solemn rebuke in public, because, according to one version, on h is arriving home on Sunday morning from a journey and finding no food for his wearied horse , he sent the groom out to the next field to cut and bring it in to him, which, by his master 's orders, the groom threshed on the spot, as is entirely owing to his own negligence.

thrashing, declared himself perfectly satisfied and rode off in the best of
humor.

(2) 1778, 1 May?: Drafted in Yohogania Co., VA for 6 months. Served under Capt. HINTON. Mar ched to the mouth of Beaver Creek, PA, where he fell under the command of Col. BEELER, attach ed to Gen. McINTOSH, and where they built Fort McIntosh. He accidentally cut himself while he wing lumber for the fort and received permission from the regimental surgeon to go home on fu rlough 7 Oct 1778, after which he was confined by the wound until 1 Nov, when his term of ser vice had expired. Served 6 months as a private without discharge. Annexed surgeon's certifica te. (8) The 8th PA Regiment was ordered to Pittsburgh 5 Mar 1778 for the defense of the weste rn frontiers, and by directions of Gen. McINTOSH, Col. Daniel BRODHEAD made, about 12 Jul , a detour up the West Branch to check the Indians who were ravaging Wyoming and the West Bra nch Valley. He was at Muncy on 24 Jul. Soon after, the regiment was relieved and they procee ded to Pittsburgh. They then went down to the mouth of the Beaver and there built Fort McInto sh. On 28 Aug they were at Bedford. Upon McINTOSH's command they went to the head of the Musk ingum and there built Fort Laurens. A court-martial took place at Tuscararwas (Fort Laurens) , OH 21 Nov 1778.

Elizabet h testified in Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania court that she was the daughter of John KINCAID, late of All egheny Co., that he was a cooper and carpenter by trade and that he followed the employment o f carpenter during the war of the revolution and labored in the service of the United State s with a company of Artificers in the erection of Fort McIntosh. He was a native of Lancaste r Co., Pennsylvania and was married in the town of Carlisle, Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania during the war of the r evolution. That he died in Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania 16 Oct 1833 leaving no widow. James WALLACE swor e that he knew her to be a child of the pensioner. William DUNCAN of Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania swor e that he was well acquainted with John KINCAID the revolutionary pensioner, that he (deponen t?) was living in the same house with John KINCAID at the time he died, and that he knows Eli zabeth DUNCAN to be the lawful child of John KINCAID.
