William Henry Linton - Serving as county commissioner of Second District of Lake County since 1924, William H. Linton, well known in the furniture and undertaking business of the City of Crown Point, has given to his official office the same care and attention that has made his business ventures successful. He was born in Jasper County, Indiana, in 1876, the son of Samuel Linton, who was born in Ohio, where his parents had settled after removing from Pennsylvania; they were early settlers in the Quaker state, having settled in that region in the colonial period. Samuel Linton served with distinction in the Civil war, and subsequent to that conflict moved to Medaryville, Indiana, where for a number of years he engaged in the carpentry-contracting business. His wife was Katharine Davison before marriage, and was born in Jasper County, Indiana, of pioneer Jasper County parents. Three of her brothers served in the Civil war, one of whom was killed in Texas. The Davison family is of Scotch descent.

William Linton attended school in Medaryville, completing two years of high school; he then attended an embalming college in Chicago, and in 1904 received a license to practice embalming in Illinois, and in 1910 was granted a similar license in Indiana. He removed to Crown Point in the fall of 1901 with his father, and at that time purchased the furniture and undertaking business which has been so successfully developed to greater attainments and which he now owns.

Mr. Linton entered into the civic life of the community, having natural endowment for public participation, and in 1924 was honored with the election as county commissioner. He is especially devoted to equitable distribution of road funds, and the construction of proper roads in Lake County - ever mindful of his special constituency in District No. 2.

Mr. Linton's marriage was with Blanche A. Prevo, who was born in Jasper County, Indiana, of French descent. Her father later became a resident of Hammond, and it was in this city and in South Chicago tha she received her education. To Mr. and Mrs. Linton were born two children; Irwin, who was in the World war service and who is now a partner in business with his father; and Irene, who is now Mrs. C. L. Baker of Crown Point.

Mr. Linton is a member of the Masonic order, thirty-second degree, Shrine, is past noble grand master of the Odd Fellow lodge, is a member of the Modern Woodmen, Chamber of Commerce, Commercial Club, Gary lodge of Elks, Oak Knoll Golf Club, and superintendent of the mechanical departmend of the Fair Grounds.
