IGI) claims that the name of Leonard's father was Ludwick.
2. The progenitor of the Loftin family in America came to America on the
ship "West" on July 12, 1636 settling near Pennsylvania, Pa. There is
some indication that Leonard, Sr. may have originally spelled his name
"Loughton." Earlier branches of the family in England and Holland spelled
the surname "Loftingh." Tradition says that Leonard was descended from
John Loftin, an English tailor, who is said to have invented the thimble.
