Benjamin E. Lohman came to Milton, PA in 1879 at about 18 years of age. It is believed he came with his parents, and they settled 16 Apple Street at Front Street. About 1899-1900 Benjamin, who worked at the YMCA as a custodian, bought a lot at the corner of Piper and Turbot Avenues, across from Harmony Cemetery. Each day he would use a wheelbarrow filled with ash from the YMCA furnaces and began to fill in the lot. He built the home where he, Ellen Elizabeth ("Lizzie"), Kate, Nevin, and Ralph lived - 400 Piper Avenue.
