Cousin Larry sent me this interesting account as follows:
Rev. John McCains memoirs compiled during his tenure at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas. He refers to the wedding of William B. Stallcup and Betsy Ann McAdoo's marriage in 1846 as being the first wedding recorded in what is now Marion County, Texas. He describes the wedding as being quite a fan-fare, describing the dance that followed the ceremony as a stirring spectacle. The gents and ladies bowed and curtsied with much aplomb and grace as they went through "lancers and quadrilles". General Sam Houston was a guest, and he and the bride, Miss Betsy Ann danced, 'til she broke a heel off one slipper. Why was General Houston there? (There were Houstons and McAdoo's marrying in the early 1800's) Was he related by marriage or just a good friend to Betsy Ann's father Evans McAdoo. Parents: Evans MCADOO and Polly Ann DOUGLAS.
