Rebecca Parque (Park) was born 1707 in County Antrim, Ireland, the daughter of a Huguenot Refugee, Jaques Parque (James Park). At the age of sixteen she was married to John Walkup, a marriage arranged by her father and the groom, who was fifty two years old. Four months after the wedding, Rebecca was a childless, penniless widow. In 1724 she married William Caldwell in Ireland. William had been schooled in Scotland at an early age and was considered educated, a man intensely proud of his heritage and possessing charm and tremendous physical strength. William and Rebecca came to America in 1727 with the Caldwell family and had children born in Pa. And Va., Margaret in 1728, Eleanor, Rebecca 1738, John 1740, William Thomas 1748, Martha in 1730, Sarah and James 1755, Elizabeth 1757, David Robert 1760.
The cemetery at Cub Creek Church in Va. is an acre of land conveyed by William Caldwell for that purpose 4/2/1751.
When William Caldwell died in Va. in 1761, leaving Rebecca with so many young children, he stipulated that slave SAMBO be her possession until her death. Within the next ten years the entire family had moved to South Carolina and shortly thereafter the Revolutionary War was started.

I disagree with some dates given by Ann Roy. My reason for this statement is simply put:
If Rebecca Parque Walkup had been born 1707 she would have been 53 years old when her last child was born. Although this is possible I feel it is highly improbable given the fact there was no prenatal care or precautions for a woman of that age. I feel most likely Rebecca was born 1710/1711 and married William just prior to his sailing to America.
Also, the birth date of the child called Martha is in question; if Martha had been born 1730 as some claim she would have been 45 years old when her first child was born and 54 when the last child was born; her headstone reads 1750 - 1802 and I am inclined to believe that version. It is possible that there was a "Martha" born in 1730 who died before 1750 when the second "Martha" was born. Parents: Jaques PARQUE.
