James the first's father was Thomas Howard of England, he was the son of
Thomas by his second wife, Ann Throughg ood...he was the son of Matthew
Arundel, who had taken his mother Joyce Howar d's maiden name to avoid
problems under the rule of Edward VI, who had his f ather beheaded and accused
of conspiracy because he and wife had become Prote stants during the reign of
Henry VIII...Matthew married Margaret Wiloughby, t hey had three children:
Thomas (not ours), William and Elizabeth. Second, he married Ann
Throughgood, and had Matthew, Thomas (ours) and Fredrick. These three
emigrated to America with the Throughgood family to seek their fortune s.
Both Thomas and his brother Fredrick landed in VA, and appear in the reco rds
of York Co., where Thomas' son James appears in the county record. Hope this

The grandson of Margaret, who w as Thomas Mowbray, was created "Duke of
Norfolk" also in 1397.........
The Mo wbray line ended in 1476 and in 1483, the Dukedom was recreated for
members of the Howard family, as an older Mowbray son was not available. As
Robert Thom as Howard married Lady Margaret
Mowbray, their son John Howard, (who was kille d at "The battle of Bosworth
Field") became the first "Duke of Norfolk" of the Howard family. Johns wife
(our grandmother) was Kathrine Moleyns.........(Joh n had been married twice)
Lord Thomas Howard, married to Margaret Douglas and older son of John above,
became the 2nd Duke of Norfolk.......
I know of but three sons of the 2nd Duke, and Margaret Douglas : THOMAS
(Became the 3rd Duke of Norfolk...(As he was in prison and before his death,
his second wife, Ann Throughgood, came to America
during this period, to escape the turmoil of the times...the Cromwell
Rebellion, and Catherine Howards problems as wife of Henr y VIII....et. al.)
