His Occupation was machinist - Electrical Engineer. He worked in Shipyard in Belfast and for the Vickers in England. He came to US in 1910, he worked for Otis Elevator Co., he had a ticket on the Lusitania but canceled it. (The ship was sunk on way to U.S.) He had to go back in 1915 to work for the British Government during the War. It was 3 months before he would have been eligible to become an American citizen. He talked to Imigration, he didn't want to go if eligibility would be lost. U.S. Government guaranteed him that time already here would be OK, if he would go help England, they would pay passage for himself and his family to return after the War was over. He brought himself and his entire family back in 1919, they were booked on the Titanic but canceled. (Ship sank on way to U.S.) They came on another ship, but due to the mines still in the shipping lanes they had to go to Canada and then come to NJ by train.
Religion of the family was Presbyterian and the children were raised in the faith and went to Sunday School.
1929 Wall Street Crash, Maude got married, Ellen was working for General Electric and it folded, so she got a job with Edison in West Orange and moved in with Jean and Henry so she could save on car fare, she only got paid 30 cents an hour. Charlotte stayed with Jean and Henry until she got a job at the Public Service, then met Bill and then she stayed with his Mother until they got married.
Bob stayed with his Father, After Frankie was killed, he was living with Jean and Henry, Robert decided to sell the house he was living in. Parents: Robert RAINEY and Mary A. JOHNSTON.
