He came from England and settled at Sewell's Point, Lower Norfolk, VA, sometime between 1626 and 1632. This area was located at the entrance to the Elizabeth River, opposite to Elizabeth City and the Fortress Monroe. In 1625, he served as Justice of Elizabeth City; also, he served from 1629 to 1633 in the House of Burgess; and again, from Lower (Southern) Norfolk County (now Nansemond Co.) in May 1640; and, as Councillor from 1644 to 1650.
Sewell's point is the present site of the U S Navy Norfolk Base. Sewell's Spit (as still shown on USGS maps) is the docking site for the U S Navy aircraft carriers.
From Gillem's account - Henry came from England with his older brother, Thomas, in 1619, aboard the "George" and settled at Sewell's Point, Virginia (1626-1632). This area was located at the entrance to the Elizabeth River, opposite to Fortress Monroe and Elizabeth City, at the mouth of the Elizabeth River. On the south side of Hampton Roads, between Newport News and Norfolk, VA, six miles south of Fortress Monroe, is Sewell's Point, a landing on "Fleur-de-Hundred" (Thomas Sewell's land).
There is an account in 1638, for Henry, from his father in London, England, of tobacco sent over in the ships "America" and "Alexandria" and for one half of a cargo in a shallop with sassafras roots sold in England. The cash receipts total was 650 pounds, 19 shillings and 6d (about $35,000 in 1955 currency).
Henry Sewell and Captain Sibley were authorized by the court of Elizabeth City to build a Puritan Church at Sewell's Point in 1844.
According to Warfield, there was another child, Mary Sewell, born 1628 in Bristol, England. Her father, Henry I, came to America aboard the "Elizabeth & Dorcas" in 1634. He was also a member of the House of Burgesses from Elizabeth City & Lower Norfolk County, Virginia. This Mary supposedly married a Richard Dudley in 1645.

Note: He was a tobacco planter. He was making surveys on the Severn River in Maryland in 1661 and settled there on 8 Aug 1664. In 1680, (patents 7, folio 343 at the land office, Annapolis, Anne Arundel, MD) he was granted a 537 acre tract lying on the north side of the Severn River, in Saint Margaret's Westminster Parish and here at Sewell's Cove, he made his home and called it "Sewell's Increase". It was later called "Henry's Increased". His will was dated 29 Sep 1691; but was not probated until 5 Dec 1700, over nine (9) years following his death.
