OBITUARY:

Arthur George Shock, March 27, 1901 - December 26, 1914. Accidental Discharge of Shot Gun, Youth of Thirteen Met Untimely death. A shocking accident occurred last Saturday on the farm of Albert Rettich, about four miles northwest of Germantown, when Arthur Shock, the 13 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. William Shock, tenants on the farm, lost his life by accidental discharge of a shot gun. The victim of the accident, togethr with an older brothe had run a rabbit under the tobacco shed. When the elder boy was trying to dislodge the animal, Arthur attempted to remove the gun through a small door in the shed, when it is supposed the hammer caught on a tobacco lath, discharging the contents of the gun into his right breast. The boy walked around the tobacco shed and sat down before he realized the seriousness of his condition, when he called for help. He was taken to the house and Dr. Holtzmuller, of Farmersville, and Dr. Kemper of this city were called. Upon examination they realized that sving the boy's life was impossible, as a number of vital organs had been injured. The accident occurred shortly after 9 o'clock and the victim lived until 12:45. The coroner was notified and viewed the body which was givien to Fred Nunnamaker, the local undertaker, to prepare for burial. Tuesday the remains were taken to Rockford, Ohio, for interment. The boy was bright little fellow and parents have the sympathy of the entire community in their sad loss. The lad was a pupil of Miss Roma Fouts, teacher of the Bickel District School. He leaves, the parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Shock, three sisters, Mrs. Mary Bender, Mrs. Hazel Neidich, Ethel Schock and one brother, Pleasant Shock. Buriel was in the Stringtown Otterbein Cemetery outside of Rockford, Ohio. Parents: William Areness SHOCK and Mary Grace ROBINSON.

Carlila Crites, pioneer Allen County resident, passed away Saturday, May 18, 1918 at 6:20 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Martha Imler, 709 W. High St. Mrs. Crites who had lived in Allen County ever since she was 12 years old, celebrated her 84th birthday anniversary January 1. Her death was due to a complication of diseases which she has suffered for a year and a half. Surviving besides her aged husband and daughter, Mrs. Imler, re two other daughters, Mrs. D. W. Whetstone of Wapakoneta, and Mrs. Emma Daughtery of Pickaway County, Ohio. She was a member of the United Brethren Church of Allentown, where the funeral services will be held, Monday at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Biddle of Elida, will preside. Catherine Allen, daughter of Peter and Mary Shock, was born in Coshocton County, Ohio, May 21, 1837, and departed this life at her daughter's, Mrs. H. T. Delong, near Allentown, Ohio, July 4, 1927, at the ripe old age of 90 years, 1 month and 14 days. She was united in marriage with Joseph D. Allen, December 3, 1857. To this union were born 13 children, 9 of whom preceded their mother in death. Her husband died Octobr 29, 1918. Since that she has made her home most of the time with her daughter. At an early age whe was converted and joined the united Brethren Church at Honey Run Class; later she transferrred her membership to Allentown Class, where she remained a faithful member until death. Sister Allen loved her Church, and her greatest desire was to see her children and others to accept her Savior. Her home was always open to all who wished a haven from the storms of life. Surely a woman of great faith and much loved by all who knew her has fallen. She leaves three sons, one daughter, 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, two brothers and relatives and a host of friends to mourn. The funeral services were held in Allentown United Brethren Church in charge of Rev. J. M. Sherer, assisted by Revs. Charles and Thomas Weyer; after which her body was laid to rest in the cemetery near by to await the resurrection morn. Parents: Peter Sr. SHOCK and Mary Ann BOYD.

He was employed in the oil business before retirement and was a member of the methodist church. He had made his home in Refugio since 1939. Gilmore, whom he married March 2, 1938, in Pioneer, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Baxter (Kaye Nancy) Smallwood of Port Orange, Florida; four sons, Norman R. of Durant, Ms., David A. of Jackson TN; Richard Paul of Carson Dity, Nev., and Mark W. at home; a sister Mrs. Wayne (Martha) Guauque, Tennessee; two brothers, Stanley of Flint, and Howard of Van Wert, Ohio; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson, two brothers, and one sister. The funeral will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Amboy Baptist church on Territorial Road, with the Rev. Clarence Shock spent most of his life near Rockford as a farmer, 23 months of his life was spent in World War I. For the past six years because of a heart ailment he was unable to work. Clinton A. Shock, 84, manager for manhy years of the Texas Telephone Co. in Sherman, died at 2:00 p.m. Sunday November 8, 1959 at his home in Corpus Christi. The Texas Telephone Co. was a predecessor of the General Co. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in first Methodist church here, conducted by Dr. J. Daniel Barron, pastor. Burial will be in Memorial park Cemetery under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home. Mr. Shock was born march 13, 1875, in Allentown, Ohio, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Shock. he came to Texas from Ohio in 1904. Mr. Shock was employed by the texas Telephone Co. in Sherman for 28 years. He was general manager at the time of his retirement. He was active in Sherman affairs, particularly in the Red River Valley fair Assn. He had lived in Corpus Christi nine years. He was a member of the methodis Church there. Surviving are his wife, the former Mrs. Myra Dillingham, whom he married in 1944; three sons by a previous marriage, Chad E. Shock of refugio and F. Karl Shock and Donald C. Dolph A. Shock, 71,. of Rte. 5 Van Wert, died unexpectedly at 5;45 a.m. June 24, 1975 at his home. The Fire Department Emergency Squad was called to the residence but was dead on their arrival. He was born September 13, 1903 in Rockford, he was the son of James Stewart and Alvena (Royer) Shock. Survivors include his widow, the former Dorothy Belle Runnion, whom he married on April 3, 1927 in Van Wert County, Ohio and had two brothers, Mex Estell of 212 Gay Street and James J. of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mr. Shock was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He was an employee of Krogers in Dayton, Ohio until his retirement in 1964. He returned to Van Wert where he ran a poultry farm until 1970. He was a member of the Antioch Chapel Friends Church. Funeral arrangements at Alspachs are imcomplete. OBITUARY:

Earl Shock, 83, retired manager of Community Country Club and Hills & Dales Park, died October 5, 1969,(actually Dec. 5, 1969) at 6:35 A.M. at Kettering Memorial Hospital, where he was admitted Wednesday. He resided at 609 Lamont Drive, Kettering. Mr. Shock entered City Service in 1914. He was assigned in 1919 to Supervision of the Golf Course and Park,given to the city a year earlier by John H. Patterson. During Mr. Shock's tenure, the Gold Course was developed from nine to thirty-six holes and a new clubhouse was erected. On retiring in 1956 he expressed particular pride in those achievements. His wife, Helen, who survives, served 30 years at Office Manager at community, retireing simultaneously with her husband. During their work there, the couple resided at the club. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1965. When they left Community, a city spokesman, citing their "many years of faithful service", saw "the tremendous growth and improvement in the facilities at Community" as a "monument of their conscientious devotion". Mr. Shock was a 46 year member of U. S. Gold Association Public Links and a member of Ohio Public Links and Dayton Exchange and Executive clubs. He was the father of Mrs. Janet Beardsley of Kettering, several times city and state women's golf champion, and Don Shock, professional and Columbus Country Club and also a former city golf champion here. Four grandchildren also survive. Services witll be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Routsong Funeral Home, Brown Street, at Irving Avenue. Burial will be in David Cemetery. OBITUARY:

Mrs. Edna Hull, 37, A death that saddened many hearts occureded Saturday at 9:45 p.m. August 15, 1935, when Mrs. Edna Hull of this place passed away at the Findlay Hospital. A week before she had submitted to a serious operation, and very soon her condition became critical. The body was brought to the bristoll Funeral Home that night and remained there until Wednesday 2;30 p.m., funeral services were conducted at Christ Lutheran church, of which she was a member. Rev. Paul R. Clouser, the pastor, officiated assisted by Rev. C. O. Callendar, pastor of th East Broadway United brethren Church, Toledo. The church was filled with relatives and friends. Mrs. A. F. Byers, Mrs. Ross Johnson, Rev. Clouser and G. M. Kurtz sang "Just as I am", "Abide with Me" and "Come, Ye Disconsolate", Miss Elsie Howard presided at the organ. Burial was made in the Spring Grove Cemetery, beside her late husband. R. E. Gilliland of Fostoria, Lewie Beis, Samuel Gunther, Arch Donelson, A. F. Byers and H. H. Miller were pallbearers. An unusual number of Beautiful floral gifts were banked around the casket. Edna May Shock was born October 13, 1897, to Rev. and Mrs. J. W. Shock, at Kempton, near Lima. Her mother's maiden name was Ida M. Cary. edna lived to attain the age of 37 years, 9 moths and 27 days. The family resided in Dayton, Rising Sun and Sycamore before coming to Carey September 1, 1913. During their 6 year's residence here rev. Shock was pastor of the United Brethren charge. Edna was graduated from the Carey High School with the class of 1916. On November 27, 1918, she was united in marriage with Harry Hull who died December 17, 1933. She is survived by her parents and by one brother and two sisters; Harold Shock of Nevada, Lucille wife of B. C. Fruchey of napoleon and Clarice wife of R. C. Wirt of North Baltimore. Two sisters preceded her in death. One, Margaret, died at birth, and the other Evelyn was killed in a train and automobile collision January 19, 1930. She also leaves 13 nieces and nephews. Shortley after graduation from high school edna bacame a linotype operator in the Carey Times office. Except for a few years she since has been connected with this paper in various capacities. For nearly a year she was in charge, and fulfilled her duties, no matter what they were, with marked efficiency. In fact, she was proficient in all she did. For more than a yer past she had been a teacher in the Junior department of Christ Lutheran Sunday School, and Wednesday the children of this department attended the funeral services in a body. An outstanding woman in the community, she gave her interest to the better things of life and was determined in her convictions. She overcame the obstacles that came her way and accomplished much. She merited the love and respect so freely accord her and made for herself a place hard to fill. Although recently burdened with ill health she maintained her usual courtesy and effieciency to the day she entered the hospital, fully expecting an early return to health. Elizabeth was the 2nd child of Peter and Mary Ann (Boyd) Shock.

OBITUARY:

Mrs. David (Elizabeth) Baxter, Sr., 92 and probably the oldest resident of Allen County, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. A. Fisher, 798 Linden Street, Saturday November 5, 1921. Mrs. Baxter came to this territory when but five years of age. At that time one little hut stood on the side of the present city, where the public square is now located. Friendly Indians roamed the forests and pitched tepees in the territory now occupited by the city of Lima. Mrs. baxter was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Shock and was born iin the state of Pennsylvania. She was married to David Baxter Sr., 64 years ago. At that time the family resided near Morris Chape.

TELLS INDIAN HISTORY

Mrs. Baxter recounted, almost up to within the last few days prior to her death, histor of the red man and his dealings with the whites, his mode of living and growth of the city from a famous Indian village to one of the most progressive one in northwestern Ohio. Paralysis, combined with age caused her death. The past year she has been enjoying unusually good health for one of her age. She was born on Christmas day in 1829 and had she lived until Christmas she would have been 92 years old. Her husband was at one time Lima county Commissioner. Besides the daughter, at whose home she died, Mrs. Baxter is survived by six sons. They are: lewis P. Baxter, lakeview; P. S. and J. H. Baxter, both of Geneva, Ohio; W. C. and L. G. Baxter, both of Delphos, and D. N. Baster, Hudson, Michigan. Thirty-two granchildren and 21 great-grandchildren survive. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 P.M. at Morris Chapel, Rev. Boroff, pastor of the Methodist Church, Elida, will officiate. Interment will be at the walnut Grove Cemetery beside the grave of her husband, east of Delphos. Six grandsons will act as pallbearers. They are baster, Robert, and Paul Fisher, all of Lima; Eugene Foust of Elida, and Roy and Gall Baxter, both of Delphos. Parents: Peter Sr. SHOCK and Mary Ann BOYD.

Elvina was entombed with Asa in a mausoleum next to Van Wert's Woodlawn Cemetery, then removed to the cemetry. With family aproval, most of its 83 bodies rested in Woodlawn Cemetery after the aging mausoleum demolition.
