They are mustered intoo in Company A 102nd. OVI Frank is 25 years old and he is named a Sargent. He measured 5 foot 10 inches. John Huston is named company captain.

October 8, 1862
The regiment is at the battle of Perrysville, Ky but their unit is held in reserve and does not see action. By October 30 they arrive at Bowling Green, KY. While here Frank gets very sick with "typhoid-malaria and is close to death for a period. He was hospitalized for 3 months. The regiment heads south on December 19.

March 1, 1863
Frank is released from the hospital and gotes to Clarksville, Tenn. join the 102nd.

September 22, 1863
After the battle of Chickamauga the 102nd is moved from Clarksville, to Nashville, Tenn. The regiment is divided into two parts and Company A is asssigned the task of guarding railroad. On October 30 they are all sent back to Nashville.

June 6, 1864
Moved south to Alabama where they guarded the railroad from Normandy to Decherd. On this date the regiment is didvided into two wings. The right wing under Colonel Given crosses the Cumberland mountains to Bellefonte, Alabama. Lt Col. Elliott takes the left wing to Doddsonville. They were assigned to cover 50 miles of the Tennessee River. Later in the summer the regiment is moved to Decatur Alabama to guard a rail road.

September 24, 1864
About 200 men from the 102nd including Wade are united with 200 men of the 18th Michigan are headed towards a Union fort in Athens, Alabama. Conferates had taken the force and as a result the men in the 102nd had a brisk fight and then were taken prisoner. As a prisoner, Frank Wade is taken to Cahawba, Alabama.

January, 1865
The Alabama River floods and entered the prison. The prisoner revolted but Confederate soldiers in town were able to put down the uprising. The prisoners were forced to stand in water 2 to 4 feet deep for three days. In a letter home he reports that there werfe 19 men from Co. A originally in the prison but now there are only 4 left.

April 26, 1865
The steam boat " Sultana" comes to Vicksburg and loads 1,966 men on the boat that was designed with a 376 person limit. At 3AM and seven miles from Memphis the boiler blew up! More than 1,700 people were killed including Frank Wade. His body was never recovered.

In the 1860 census of Mechanic Township, Holmes County, there is a Christina Wade living with Robert and Eliza, she is age 13.

Buried in Elliott Cemetery, Holmes County, Ohio. Her brother Benjamin Wade who was killed when the Mississippi river boat, Sultana, exploded as he was returning from the Civil War is buried next to her. Note that the explosion of the Sultana was one of biggest naval distasters in history with hundred killed. In 1872 she had a grocery store in Ford County, IL.
