John Williby was born in Alleghany County, PA in the year 1800. In 1827 he was marri ed to Letitia Kneely, a native of the same state and county. There were born to them nine children, five boys and four girls: James, John P, George A, William P, Robert B, Mary Jane, Priccilla, Phila Ann, and Elizabeth. John Williby emig rated to Jefferson County, Iowa in 1853. The next year, in March 1854, he came to Lucas County, Iowa and settled on land in the south west of south west secti on 16 of English Township. Here he lived for twenty-one years and died July 19, 1875 at the age of seventy-five. On the farm that they settled on there was th irty acres broke out and a log cabin with a big fire place built out of rock.Th is house was one of the old landmarks. (It) stood east of the Newbern road two or three hundred yards. Mr and Mrs Williby were well and favorably known in the township forty years ago. His wife died (Dec 27, 1883) at the age of seventy-f ive.
