EDDIE LEA WINSLOW ("Auntie Rose" as she was known to us nieces and
neph ews) married ROBERT Carroll ROSE (of whom we know little), and they
lived mos t of their lives in the New Mexico area, altho' in their earlier
years, they were living in Sterling City, TX. There were no children of
this union so A untie Rose more or less adopted my mother's children.
Eddie Lea was the old est of 4 children born to her parents HENRY WALKER
WINSLOW, SR. and ANNA BLA NCHE MaGILL, in San Saba, TX. We loved her
dearly!
Uncle Bob died on May 14 , 1973, and Auntie Rose died two days later on
May 16. Her death records sta te that she died of MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION
due to ARTERIOSCLEROTIC HEART DISEA SE.
She is buried in Prairie Haven Cemetery in Hobbs, New Mexico, along with
Uncle Bob Rose. They were married over 50 years, and since they died
just t wo days apart, PAUL HARVEY, radio personality, featured them in his
telecast.
When BARBARA BALLARD was 13 years of age, "Auntie Rose" paid for her to
tak e piano lessons. "Auntie Rose" had tried adopting me at one time but
the Su perintendent of Boles Home was determined to keep family groups

County (fr om Shackleford, Missouri, Saline Co.), and first settled in the
Cherokee sect ion, later moving to San Saba, where he operated a meat
market for number of years. He was married in Vernon Co., Missouri to
MARTHA E. WALKER (my Great Grandmother) whose family came to San Saba
County about the same time. Mart ha died and Great Grandfather Henry
married a second time to Mrs. Elizabeth L ow Brown, a daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. D.D. Low. ELIZA BROWN WINSLOW was born 11 Mar 1854, d. 25 Dec.
1945. Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Low were among the first s ettlers in San Saba
County.

Eastland, TX, and was buried in the family plot in the San Saba City
Cemetery, San Saba, San Saba County, TX. He was a butcher (meat cutter)
at t ime of death.
SAN SABA NEWS, p. 4, Thursday, September 6, 1928: "H. Walker Wi nslow, a
native son of San Saba town, died at the family home in Cisco at 10: 30
o'clock Monday morning. The body was brought to San Saba and funeral
se rvices were held at the Church of Christ Tuesday afternoon. Burial was
in th e Odd Fellows Cemetery. Rev. Clem W. Hoover, pastor of the Church
of Christ, conducted the funeral services in the presence of a large
circle of friends and relatives. The pallbearers were W. V. Dean, A. B.
Wilson, A. E. Moore, W . A. Smith, and J. G. Holder, and E. M. Scott.
"The deceased was born May 13, 1875. Many years ago, he was married to
Miss Blanche Magill of Cherokee and leaves surviving the weeping wife and
four children. They are Mr. L. Ballard of Eastland, Mrs. Bob Rose of
Brownwood, Walker, Jr., and Jack Winslow at ho me. There are also three
brothers and two sisters: H. N. Winslow, G. P. Win slow, W. W. Winslow,
Miss Vollie Winslow of San Saba, and Mrs. J. P. Altizer of Haslet, Texas.
"Walker Winslow was a good man. He was generous and neighb orly. He was
a good citizen and always took a keen interest in public affair s. He was
a member of the Church of Christ and died in a triumphant faith in his
redeemer. The floral offering was eloquent token of the esteem in which
he was held by those who knew him best. A number of friends from Cisco,
accompanied the family for the funeral and burial." (Source: Obituary
