St Peter's church Ash state the following :- Making your way up the aisle towards the Old Chancel you will see the only memorial remaining in the floor has been worn to almost total illegibility. It used to read: "Here lieth the body of Henry Slyfield of April, 1732, aged 71 years".^1,5,6

     George Slyfield was born circa 1600.¹ He was the son of George Slyfield and Susan Freeland.¹ George Slyfield married Ann (?) circa 1624. George Slyfield left a will on 20 January 1675/76; George Slyfield (X) of Pyrford, husbandman 20 Jan 1675/6 (to be buried in churchyard) to my son John Slyfield £10; to my grandchildren Elizabeth Slyfield daughter of Henry Slyfield and Mary Wicker daughter of Joseph Wicker 5s each; to Henry Slyfield £5 residue to my wife Ann Slyfield exec. and if she dies to my son John Slyfield a featherbed, bolster, two pillows, one of best pair of sheets, three best blankets, cutains and valence with a bedstead, mat and cord, great brass kettle and two of the newest pewter dishes; residue to Henry and John equally except two oak chests to John; Henry to pay my daughter Mary Wicker £3
